Ofcourse there are, all you have to do is google it: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=opera&rls=en&hs=J0&q=3d+character+modeling+tutorial&btnG=Search

all i can say is you newbies (ok im one too) want to do everythin straight away. Make a person??? that is a skilled task that takes these guys years to master. Did you not even read the tutorials on the sight or the manual?

Sure, if you want to do something like an architectural visualization and need some stand-in characters.  Or perhaps you need a model to rig since you're practicing rigging.  If you're modeling though, or practicing modeling/rendering, using Makehuman is like taking clip art off the net, putting it in a document and calling it your own art.
In my opinion at least.
In other words, sure it can be useful for some things and for some people, but using Makehuman takes away all the art of 3d modeling, and simply creates a very generic human with no style.

Makehuman is a good free program however...
Do it yourself! It keeps you determined and gives you practice at the same time, you'll be proud at what you have accomplished!  :)

Oh and Hihosilver, i knew exactly what you was going to say  ;)
