Challenge #15: ...and then there was light.

Another anim8or challenge: ..and then there was light.

The challenge you will have to do the lighting for a still render. It can be any kind of scene but only the lighting matters. You are allowed to use a little postproduction. But to stop people from photoshopping everything, you will have to add a screenshot of you scene, in which the light setup can be seen.
Look here for some tips and tricks about lighting in anim8or: Anim8or Lighting
Try being creative! ;)

Have fun, keep in mind the challenge rules and post your progress, c&c, and/or final renders in this topic.

Deadline: 2 weeks (April 5th)

What will be judged:
This challenge will have a public poll. Vote for the still render with the best lighting.

Awesome, I already have a model I've been wanting to try some fancy lighting on for a bit. Mind you i still have to finish it.

(Gotta give credit to Mills here, cus it was his dragon that really inspired the design of this thing!)

I'm definitely going to post a render. Have a few good ideas. This is one challenge that won't need much modeling, but scene placement and lighting.

@Navek: Looking good so far. =]

I appreciate the credit, Navek, but really not necessary! I look forward to seeing how your image turns out.

Floyd's illustration pic reminds me a lot of one of my gallery images, http://www.anim8or.com/gallery/gallery18/image5.html (second image on the page, obviously.)

Will see if I have time to come up with a new one!

Ah, those are the exact images I thought of when I saw this challenge up Mills!  I hadn't realized you had created them, well done!  It sounds like we have some strong competition in our midst!

Just a quick thought, I'm assuming that we can't add in things like lens flares etc. in post production because this is just supposed to be Anim8or lighting right?

Navek: I imagine post-production is allowed to a certain extent... it's really up to floyd to answer that question though...

In any case I would avoid using lens flares unless you have a bright lightsource just outside the image to add photorealism ;) In (most) other cases I would not recommend it, since it easily looks fake and overdone.

Thanks for the advice $imon, I'll keep it in mind (I'll post the post production test that brought on the question) and while I'm here i might as well post a progress render too.

yeh postproduction.... you are allowed to use some of it, for little things like lens flares/AO passes. Just to make sure this isn't going to be a photoshopping contest, you will have to add a screenshot of your scene, in which you can clearly see the light setup.

Lighting is my weakest point (in a list of many weaknesses), so i hope i have time to attempt this.
