bone parameter
« on: May 02, 2010, 07:41:59 am »

ive read the manual and i think i have it down. but im still a bit confused. my main objective is to not have my bone go all whacky and rotate in reverse. ive tried 2 fix a previous sequence by messing around with the limits but nothing will work. this might be because the animation was done with no limits and it just wont change it on the fly.

i guess what im getting at is if i make the parameter form -179 to 179 will that stop my bones from going in reverse?

another thing i just ran into. i cant unlock my bone. the checkbox will fade out but it still has my bone checked. i dont know how to get rid of it

is it usually this frustrating? i think i broke my anim8or 2. since i couldnt unlock that bone i just deleted it. made a new 1 and now everytime i go to reskin it it just stops responding. so i think im gonna have to redo everything just to get started again.

well i give up. i have no idea how it works. it seems that it doesnt go from keyframe to keyframe. your 1st keyframe goes to ur 2nd keyframe untill ur make a 3rd keyframe your 2nd keyframe changes. i would think it would just go in order but it doesnt look like it does.

With regards to your bones going in reverse, the -179 to 179 (or any other defined limitation) trick will keep that from happening.  The No Limits option is almost always a bad idea because your animation software now has two options for every path and needs to guess which way is correct.

I've just ran a quick experiment using bone properties in Sequence Mode, the unlock button goes from unchecked, to checked, to checked but greyed out, and then back to unchecked.  Perhaps that's it?  Honestly, I only ever alter the bone properties in Figure Mode, so I'm only guessing that that might be the cause of the problem.

And yes, as with most hobbies it usually is just that frustrating ;-)

from my experience. setting the bone limits to (-179 to 179) won't help with the bone going in reverse problem. The limits seem to only stop you from trying to animate the bone from a certain point. not the software. Don't know why. What happens is if you have two sequences running in scene mode the last key from the first sequence and the first key of the second sequence animates on a path.

for example. The last key of the first sequence is at -150. the first key of the second sequence is at 5. If you are going by the limits that you set, the bone should rotate from -150 to -149 all the way to 5. But anim8or will go from -150 to -151 up to -179 then 1 to 5. to stop this, select the bone you are animating in scene mode, not sequence mode. after you put in the first sequence go to the very next frame after your last key frame and then select key all. Then go to the frame that you want to add the second sequence to. don't know why this works but it does.

if you still got issue after setting bone limits in scene mode select the figure then press ctrl + p to bring up the graph editor this editor can edit key frame bone orientations
