Character
« on: July 17, 2010, 06:56:36 pm »

Hello, its been awhile since I've been on these forums. I was just messing around and trying stuff. I made this character thing. It doesn't have any bones because I haven't found a proper and simple tutorial on how to skin.

Here is also 2 moprh targets.

 Hello there RetroZombie. :)

Cool dude. Nice morphs. The model needs work, but has potential.
Probably most importantly would be that 'the legs and feet are too close together, which will make it near-impossible to skin anyway.
Skinning: The art of attaching model to bones.
So, 1st thing, after fixing the legs, is to build a skeleton.
Section 5 of the manual covers the figure editor. Ignore building the bird, because you are dealing with 1 object, and not a number of different objects attached to thier own seperate bones. (which is what the bird tutorial is about).
Just concentrate on the parts titled 'Building a skeleton', 'Flexible joints' and 'skinning'.
Read the skinning section, but use the 'painted weights' option, rather than the eggy shaped oval thingys.
That'll all be a good start.
Lets no how you're going. Glad to help where i can. :)

u can also use the wieght brush tool. i find that much easier than skinning. but its to your own preference. all u do is paint the the vertecies.

Relik.  The weight brush tool is actually just another method of 'skinning'. ;)

oh. then whats the other option called? i thought it was skinning but i kinda ignore it and go straight to wieght paints. im sure that works just as well if not better but i found it hard to select the points on the inner cylinder difficult to get a hold of. but with wieght painting its kind of a hassle to select verts cause it will go right through so u really cant just go on the left or right view and cover 1 leg or something cause ull cover both legs. but if i were u i would try both of them out and see what works best for u. i think they both work but its more of a preference.

and i gotta stop reading and writing to this forum while im drunk i missed ur quote twice now. i just read it after i typed all that. ☺
