LOL, I totally forgot about this. I got sick the next day and stayed that way for a week and it left my mind completely :P

Don't know if any good for games, but the most realistic textures would be from actual photos?

Good call, johnar. I've found that my most realistic textures of any sort have come from good, high-quality photos.

XD it's not too difficult to MAKE it from existing textures. If you're a half- (or quarter-) decent Photoshop or GIMP artist like me, it wouldn't be too difficult.

I'm good enough with gimp, but I would like to be able to make my own textures for a game without having to rely on google images.

 I see your point. The only suugestion i have would be as TheBlackHole suugested, and thats google.
 Not for textures tho, but for texture making tips/tuts/ideas.
 Unless someone here points you to something 'already discovered'.  8)

well you need a source image to study.
then analyse it it terms of how many layers you might need.
ie say it is brownish with speckles and streaks of green.
create a layer of brownish. when your happy with that
create a new layer for the green streaks.
and one for the speckles.
The cool thing being you can adjust each level with
effects and such before you decide when its finished and combine
 the layers into your final texture.
'Gimp' and 'paint net' both have layers......hope that helps.

When my lazy bone gets surgically removed I will try to come up with a tutorial or at least a list of tips etc.

I was thinking more in terms of what the Capt. said; actually studying a source image and then designing your based on that, but from scratch, or combining different existing images.
