Packaging and Sending
« on: March 30, 2008, 07:02:52 pm »

I thought of a new feature that probably (I think) would not be so hard to implement into anim8or.
Packaging. Now I know you can just send the anim8or file, but when you're trying to bring it to another computer, the textures don't come with the anim8or file.
So what I'm saying is under maybe "Render" put an option for "Package" and than it will ask where to save a zip file, and that zip file will contain
1. The actual anim8or file
2. All the textures that the project has
and it will be zipped (compressed) ready to take to another computer or to e-mail to someone.

Another thing I was thinking of is:
When you render there should be an option to Email the rendered picture (only picture b/c some movies are to big or whoever you're sending it to might not have the same codec) as an attachment in an email.
It should open up in the default email client (thunderbird, outlook, Gmail) and be ready to be sent.

That's it for now
Thanks ;D

i love both of these ideas!  although, i would put the 'package' command in the 'file' menu, rather than the 'render' one.  that's my only crit :)

Well now all we need is for Steve to put them into anim8or. :)
Thanks for the comments, and yeah now that I think of it, it should be under File.

Hey, don't bump your topic flametiger74, I saw it when it was first posted.  I often would rather hear what everyone thinks about something that to say anything.   Since you keep on insisting, I think this would be too much work relative to the benefit relative to other things.  Finishing the ray tracer an scripting languge, for example, would benefit almost everybody while I doubt the many people would use this.  Besides if you simply organize your files in meaningful directories then you can do this with little effort yourself.

To be quite honest the problem with textures not being an inherant part of the object is a pain in the butt! ... I use anim8or at work ( when I`m not doing much) on my laptop and quite often I find that an object I`ve been working on is`nt in the flash card that I use and that I`ve left it on the mainframe at home.  So having the textures saved "with" the object would be a good idea.

Whilst on the subject what does the "Save All" in file menu do? as it certainly don`t save anything out as far as I can ascertain. My flash card never blinks at all when I use that command.

SaveAll is supposed to save all your open projects that have been modified.  However it looks like it got orphaned a long time ago.  I'll see if I can fix it.

As for your laptop, why are't you using Windows's auto-sync option?
