"An8-Chan" side project
« on: November 20, 2016, 10:55:31 pm »

Hey there, everyone! My youtube fans have been wanting me to get back into making an8 tutorials, but I've been hesitant to do it because I wanted to do it with some good fun production value.

An idea that's been floating around in my head is to have the tutorials actually feature a fully animated cute character that just flies in from time to time to give the whole series a more episodic show and pseudo story and not simply a tutorial series.

Of course, if you remember me, you also remember that I specialize in making "anime girls" So I was thinking of translating Steve's Robin into the design of cute and quirky anime girl "An8-Chan".

If you have any suggestions for design elements that you think would work well for the character let me know. Or if you think this idea is just silly weeb trash, feel free to let me know that too.

This idea certainly isn't trash.  I'm not really into anime and I can't offer any ideas design-wise, but as an admirer of your consistently awesome work I'm honestly looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Ditto.
Always enjoy your anime stuff, and you're really good at it.
It would indeed be interesting to see what you do with robin.

Oh yea?

And what if I decided to actually just go and make "Anim8or the Anime" which is an episodic story that revolves around An8-chan the robin, who is a stand-in for the viewer, as she learns the ins and outs of the program.

So an episodic story that doubles as an in-depth series of tutorials.

It'd be fun to write for and animate.

It would, however be quite an ambitious project. I might try setting up a Patreon for it.

Careful with those ins and outs:

@nemyax  that's funny!

I also had the idea recently of if An8-chan changes a little with every episode. Since she is a stand in for the viewer, that represents the hypothetical viewer getting better at the program.

Sounds like a fun little project, I suppose people could drop their own variations on what she should look like into a thread and you can judge which one you'd like to use as a base design. Maybe have a low poly version to start and have her become a slightly more detailed and higher resolution model as the episodes progress, or just have different models of her made by different people.

Say- at first I was just thinking of best ways to work of the anim8or robin. At first I thought maybe trying to with some kind of thing that just worked off the pallet, but dressing a girl in red and yellow doesn't exactly lock-on to anim8or.

So I've been thinking- what if she has bird features built into her design? I.E. the anim8or.exe icon features tallons, so what if she had yellow talons for feet yellow scales at the lower segments of her legs?

Yeah, I meant more the character design aspect. Tutorials are best left to people who know exactly what they're doing. XP

The best bet is to start as simple as possible maybe use a base color like the gray user interface color for a simple outfit and then start adding features based on UI elements and such that way you can try  a part see how it looks and keep or disgardbased on how weel they match. Maybe hair can be red (possibly "feathered") with yellow accents rather than it being her clothing colors, otherwise she'd probably end up looking too much like the Chinese flag.

Yeah, to incorporate robin INTO an evolving anime character, with humanoid characteristics, could be quite challenging. (but am sure you could do it)

What about, maybe,  "An8-Chan" as a "cute and quirky anime girl", somehow really "anim8orish" (?), and with a sidekick, Robin. (maybe made in your own anime style?) (2 characters) ?
Robin could do all sorts of helpfull things for An8-Chan...... and vice versa.  ;)
