I actually really like the Chinese flag. Using red and yellow feathers is a good idea! It's going to be a challenge, but I really hope that I can wind up with a design that anyone on this forum can take one look at and recognize as being an interpretation of Steve's Robin.

I was actually playing with the idea of unusual skin color to get more of that effect. I find that giving her yellow skin (though not as solid bright yellow as in the icon) and red hair does a lot to home in on the robin identity. (yellow skin and red hair, as in similar to SunsetShimmer in that regard).

I was playing with the concept of yellow tail feathers (since that's a part of the robin Icon) and I found myself extrapolating that to a pattern of feathers which basically formed a cute skirt. --- From there curiosity drove me to see how it would look if I went with that feathery structure till it wholly resembled a light dress.  I think that's what I'll go with rather than having her actually dress up.

That plus 3 clawed hands, as well as 3 clawed digigrade legs comes together with making her look like a little red siren.

I am not sure if she should have wings or not, and if so, if they should be part of her arms, or extra limbs, and if they are limbs if they should extend from her upper or lower back.

I now have enough of her modeled out that I can take a coherent WIP screen.

She's got the same red and yellow coloring as Steve's Robin, but for the sake of balance, the pale blue that anim8or uses for the back-drop fills in as a third color.

I wanted to play around with the idea of feathers, since I don't have any feathery characters in my games. So her hair was designed to look as if it is feathers as well as the red on her body forming what appears to be a dress of feathers. Finally she has 3 feathered winglets for ears, which of course are analogous to Steve's Robin's winglets. 3 Turned out to be a bit of a fractal for her too, since she also has 3 digits on each appendage.

Do keep in mind that this is just a WIP, and that the final one will have proper detail where it deserves to be to amount to much better form (not to mention actual texture maps)

Glad you like it, Steve.

I must confess, I don't think that I myself had actually ran through the Robin Tutorial myself when I started anim8or, so technically this is my first attempt at rendering the character.

It would be pretty unfortunate to make an interpretation of someone else's character, that the original creator didn't like- I've been down that road before, not fun-

This however, I'm confident, will wind up being quite adorable in the end!
--Edit---
Added detail to the forms of the accessories!

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, anyone can interpret Robin as they please. I like your human+animal interpretation. Her dress has such a good feel of feathers.

While I like the idea that was previously piched about having a lower res character increase in polycount with each episode. I ultimately realized that that would be a lot of work to have to redo the 40 face blend shapes every single time.

So instead I'm thinking of just basically making her start out as a child that simply gets older each episode. This would be done just by scrubbing through blend shapes- really.

Here is a picture of An8-chan in child form~

Not yet textured, but fully weight painted!

Seeing her like this, I kinda feel like adding wings to her design, no matter the configuration would just make the design too busy- thoughts?

i'd say make a backup and then give it a shot - worst that can happen is it doesn't work out and you take them off again.  you don't know until you try it...

That is indeed a nice touch!  Looks like you've got her well rigged.  The tail feathers add a lot to her expression, too.

Thanks, I do enjoy making sassy expressions! It's probably going to be a lot of fun having such kinds of expressions in animated form!

People are messaging me on other sites explaining:

"Anim8or's mascot has never looked so sexy!"
and
"Now Robin is a sexy gal, that's a very cool char design :)"

Now at the moment- I have to take a moment to rerig her (since I did learn a few things about rigging when I made her adorable, slender, digitigrade legs as well as that cute fan of feathers that make up her little tail). But I am very very happy with the way things came out. It's a simple design which is pretty much characteristic of my signature in design philosophy, but at the same time there are a number of interesting traits she has, here's the run down: Red, Yellow, Blue, the primary colors of paint, incorporating her source material as a bird in the form of a pretty dress of red feathers, a fairly unique hair style, four three-fingered claws. Fantacy ears, and that fanning tail.

Maybe it's just me- but as I was posing/animating her I couldn't help but feel like she's drawn in a way that coincidentally (or perhaps subconsciously) is comparable with the art style used in some of the promo-art in the Shantae Pirate's Curse by Way Forward.

It got me starting to think of the possibility of making a video game around Robin (yes I do still intend to have her appear in the tutorial vids I will make on youtube) but I'm talking about an actual action adventure game.

Primarily I'd like to explore her as a character by way of the above mentioned traits in her design. But bonus points if I could see to it to add some level of puzzle challenges which call back to some of the features in Anim8or that it does particularly well.

An example off the top of my head. My personal favorite tool in anim8or is the cut-edge tool, as it is handled in a way that is far easier to execute in Anim8or than more complicated programs. So what if she would have an ability that let her cut the edges into certain surfaces, and she did it with her talons. I am not sure what kind of effect that could have on gameplay, but I'm sure I could come up with something.

What do y'all think?
