This probably doesn't count as a touch screen in the more common sense, but I use a Cintiq. The rotation seems...disorienting to me. If I change the Y rotation then switch to an X rotation its as if I'm tilting my head slowly to the side, which I would never want.

And while a right click wouldn't really work when using fingers, it would be good for me as I always have two buttons on the stylus, with one assigned to a right click.

Nope, no way to turn them off in ART.  I wish there was, it makes it so I cant render light coming through windows properly without leaving out the glass. Maybe combining two renders, one with and one without. But that's no fun.

This would be fine for lower poly stuff, but higher poly might need a more elegant solution. One things for sure though, anim8or could really use better rigging tools.

I never did figure out how to rig/animate hands myself.

Apparently its even difficult for Nintendo. With games like Mario Galaxy or 3D world they swap in different poses for each frame, stop motion style.

Yeah, I would like basically 3 user adjustable default sizes, a small medium and large.

While I'm wishing for things, it would be nice if we could tell it to render just a quarter or half of an image. This way we could have two or more instances of anim8or running in the background to speed up renders significantly. (they can be rejoined in photoshop)

I don't think there's much you can do, anim8or is the bottleneck here not your computer.

ELECTROHERMIT: Thanks for the support! But, honestly, I don't need anything. I'm retired and so I finally have enough free time to do some serious work on Anim8or. If anyone gave me any $$ I'd just have to spend it and that would take time away from working on Anim8or :)
You might not need anything, but we do. Kidding. Well, maybe half kidding. As great of a job as you do, you can only do so much on your own so fast. Just imagine how much more powerful of a platform anim8or could be with more programmers on board.

the easy answer is to go elsewhere, but we like the ease of use of anim8or and would like to see it jump forward a few generations.


Don't get me wrong though, the IK thing once polished up will be great, though I'm still itching for better rigging and rendering capabilities and I have a feeling it will take a long time to figure that out on your own.

YES! This was easily my most requested feature. It sounds like its still rusty, but any progress is a start, since we only got a taste of it before.

Edit: The sample seems to work as expected, but I too am having trouble setting up my own. Guess I need more of a tutorial.

To anyone who might know the answer, is there still no alternative for the middle mouse button? I use a wacom tablet and have no way of using a middle click/mouse wheel. I relied on the keyboard short cut heavily and now its gone. It really slows down my workflow in newer builds.

Kyle: if you could send me a project with the material that crashes, and the normal map file, I'll try to find the problem.
I was just about to until it randomly started to work, now I cant reproduce it. At least not consistently.


Anyway, I like the idea of putting more recent projects in the list. I'm so disorganized it would help me quite a bit for such a small thing.

First time trying normal maps. It crashes every time I attempt to apply a material with one.  I'm on Windows 10 and the latest build of anim8or.

Edit: ok, it seems to work if I first open your sample normal mapped file, it just doesnt like it when I start from scratch. Strange.

My desktop machine will stay Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.

Ditto.  Until I see any benefit in upgrading I'll be sticking with W7.  Good to know Anim8or runs on W10 though.


There are benefits. Not necessarily for anim8or but the latest direct x is exclusive to it. It also speeds up the boot time considerably, especially from sleep mode, its lightning fast for me now. (though your milage will vary)
Its better at multitasking with its task view and additional desktop to help clean up your workspace. I was holding off before but now that Ive upgraded I don't see any reason not to do it, its a free upgrade and everything seem to be compadible.

I just had a random idea, how about a set of presets certain things, like light set ups and materials?  While I'm sure there could be a way to do this with scripts it'd be nice to have some things built in.

Personally I'm in no hurry. There's still a lot of time left and I'd rather not be a guinea pig for a new OS. As much as I hate windows 7, windows 10 is still unproven and who knows what kind of compatibility problems will pop up. Not just with anim8or but all programs.
