As in starting fresh on a new mesh? It used to be shift, but it seems to have changed?

General Anim8or Forum / Default spheres looking more like ovals?
« on: September 13, 2014, 10:37:42 pm »
Hope I'm explaining this right but I just noticed something at random and was wondering this has always been the case.  A sphere should be a perfect sphere shouldn't it? When I make a sphere, regardless of how many divisions I put in it or how many times I subdivide, it doesn't look perfectly circular.   I can go to the top view and rotate it on the Z axis and it looks fine, the outline stays consistent at any degree I turn it, yet if I go to the front, left, or right view and rotate it along the same axis I see that the height is longer than its width.  Is that normal?

I can post screens if needed.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Power Rangers Command Center wip
« on: September 19, 2011, 04:10:44 am »
Yep, Zordon's command center. I don't know how how much more I'll be working on this, and lets be honest its all pretty simple geometry so far but I'm I don't have a lot of time to work on this. I thought I'd share anyway.

I won't be modeling Zordon himself. Don't need to, as this is part of a collaboration with David Fielding (the original Zordon himself).  We're doing this "where is he now?" type of thing, and I'm using anim8or to create a virtual set to composite his head in. Not exact replica but a close approximation I'd say. As much as time allows.  How much time, I have no idea, I just don't want to keep him waiting as I refine details that most won't notice.  I do hope to make it look as professional as I can.  I just need to add some panel detail and it'll be usable.  I'll keep polishing as much as I can though until our video (possibly series?) premieres on youtube.

Since anim8or doesn't do real neon lights/flares properly I'll be using Sony Vegas to add glows and flares to make it look a bit more like the show.    I'll also be using that to give David's voice that Zordon sound (or something similar at least), which you can hear/see a preview of here.  (remember this is just a teaser, before I even knew I was going to be involved, before I started any modeling)

General Anim8or Forum / AA in post?
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:01:36 am »
Hey all. so I was wondering if anyone know of any cleaver ways of anti aliasing a render after its been rendered. obviously nothing beats the real thing and shadows would still be hard edged, but maybe there's a way to lessen the harshest edges at least? I'm pretty good with photoshop but nothing Ive tried seems to work too well. what I need is an edge finding blur of some sort. they have that for sharpening but not blurring.

There's probably not much you can do, just thought I'd ask.  it could really help me when I just want to see something rendered and AA'd fast

I asked this on the beta forum a while back, but patience alone isn't getting me anywhere. Nor Google.

Here's my problem. I have a an HP laptop running windows 7.  it has a Mobile Intel 4 Express Chipset family video card.  I know for a fact it can run Anim8or, because I followed Raxx's advice and used old Vista dirvers with proper open gl support to get it to run.

Well my hardrive crashed and I had to start from square one, which wouldn't be an issue except the link no longer works.  I'm getting desperate,  haven't been able to run Anim8or in months now.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Andy's Room WIP
« on: June 07, 2010, 03:51:03 pm »
So I originally posted this on .an8 about 3 years back. migrated to CG-nation, and now I'm back here. I might have even started back here before Steve took the wip forum  down originally. So this thing has been all over the place, but its time to move it again, got to follow the community right? more feedback is always nice.

I'm not going to post everything up to this point, just some select recent renders, but please check this thread on CG-nation for plenty more on this 2+ year project of mine. its been a long road, even in its unfinished state I've been plagiarized by Lego with this,  lost a lot of my more recent advancements in a hard drive failure on my lap top,  (not all) but its been fun, so lets continue shall we?

For a quick visual summary of how far this project has come, here's a Youtube video I did documenting quite a bit of it.
Apology in advance if this is blocked in your country, I had no say in it.

Here are the some of the most recent renders of the project. keep in mind a lot of things you see here are gone, but I should be able to get it back again not looking too much different.

This is, er, was the hallway. It was lost in the hardrive failure. I'll see if I can redo it later.

This was the new and improved rug. again, I'll be remaking it later.

The Beveled desktop, you guesed it, I'll have to redo.

I'll also be using this thread for any Toy Story characters I'll be doing, otherwise I'd end up clogging up the forums.

I've asked this on CG-nation, but since that site seems pretty dead these days I thought I'd ask it here too.

Im working on this model of Woody, and he needs that string that's interwoven around the brim.

Its going to be a real pain I'd imagine...

For the two people on the planet who dont know what it looks like, heres a good shot of it.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Invisiable selection box?
« on: February 28, 2010, 02:11:23 am »
Ive never had this happen before...

I don't think I need to post screens, its pretty self explanatory. for some reason the box indicating a selected mesh is not longer visible. It only shows up in wire frame view.

Is this a bug, or is is this some kind of toggle I accidentally hit?
even when closing anim8or and re opening it doesnt seem to fix it.

General Anim8or Forum / Square of an integer? (AA samples)
« on: February 27, 2010, 09:57:25 pm »
Hey guys, I'm horrible at math, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out by listing off a a bunch of number values you can use in the AA settings. The only ones I can remember outside of the examples already listed are 25 and 64. It would really help me out, as I often change this, but usually have to to try a bunch of numbers until something takes.  So a list of values that work would be nice to have.

General Anim8or Forum / Trouble getting Anim8or to run in Windows 7
« on: December 25, 2009, 04:38:19 pm »
I mentioned this in the preview forum, but since this isn't about the beta it might as well go here.

I just got a new  Dual core hp laptop with windows 7, and I'm pretty unfamiliar with it, up till now Ive only used XP.

After a few hours of trying to research it i'm still not having much luck. I feel like such a noob, I cant even figure out the exact graphics card I have. but it has to a problem with open GL. I could probably update if I knew which version to download.

Any suggestions? I tried running as administrator but no luck.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Is this a known problem with ART?
« on: August 11, 2009, 02:10:37 am »
See how the lighting behaves oddly here? the side paneling for example fades away completely for no apparent reason.  And the side of this night stand as a similar effect going on.  not sure if this counts as a bug, or just a short coming of the render, but I cant think of any reason this should happen.  it gives it a flat look to the shadowy parts of the image.

3d text in anim8or as is never fails to look cheap to me. for a while I thought it was the renderer, but now that we have a ray tracer I see its more about beveling the edges.  the fact that anim8or extrudes in tris kinda makes it impossible for a clean bevel, so you have a manually go through and clean it up, and even then, for me at least it still doesn't look good, I guess I'm just not good at clean up.

I can actually get better results in photoshop, but it doesn't do real 3d. even though cs4 has real 3d now, it still seems to rely on importing 3d models, defeating the purpose. any kind of 3d 3d I create in photoshop usually looks pretty flat, sure it can be very shiny and beveled, but there's no perspective to it without a lot of manual work.

idea tips?

Im wanting to make high budget movie quality text (think terminator Salvation), not 90s video game menu screen text.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Renders of certain resolutions wont save?
« on: September 16, 2008, 06:05:09 pm »
This has happened to me twice in the past 2 days. Im not exactly sure what triggers it, but two times Ive tried to render an image around 1300 by 600. all buttons are grayed out except for the close button.

The render appears completely done, but the progress bar looks to only reach around 90 percent.

I'm using the latest preview build. is this is a known bug?

hello all. I'd like to work on my character animation skills a bit and I'd like to bypass the modeling and rigging phase. I remember ages ago Jeb provided one of the best ones Ive ever used. it was basically a 3d version of this guy.

it had a dace animation and everything.

does anyone know of a nice pre rigged model like that I can use to practice with? it doesn't need to be too fancy, simple yet effective is all.

I'd love it if it also had some facial controls though.  I'm going to try and grab some audio from a sitcom or something and animate to that. its something Ive always been meaning to do but never got around to.
