in order to apply a texture to a mesh you first need to press this button (its under the options button) then double click the words "new" in the grey box that appears on the left side. then in the window that appears click the - button next to diffuse then another window will appear

Click the "load texture" button the navigate through your folders to find the picture you want to apply to your mesh. when you find the texture double click it and the file selection box will close. select your texture in the texture list box . when you have your texture selected, press ok, press ok once more,select your mesh, and click the apply button(its right above where you double clicked new)

Now in a perfect world, your dollar texture would fit automatically and you wouldn't have to do anything, but thats highly unlikely, so you will have to fit your texture to your mesh yourself, which is much easier than you think.

once you have your texture applied to your mesh, select your mesh(if it isn't already) click the UV button(its a big button on the left that only has the letters UV in it) it will make a dialog box, press ok. Now you're in trhe mode to move and stretch your texture to your model. to "move" the texture, right click and move the mouse. to Stretch it, hold the alt button on your keyboard while moving the mouse away from the model.(move it closer to the model to make the texture smaller, move it away for larger) and just do that until you get it to your liking and select any of the other tools to exit UV mode.

Well one method you could do is convert it to subdivide by going build>convert to subdivide, the same way you convert a base object to a mesh, it will give the object a rounded shape but in the point editor it will keep its blocky look to make it easier to edit it and continue work on it.

Heh, forgot you could do that, I just got so used to using advanced search a long time ago. But yeah, that way is much simpler.

By higher quality they mean that the image has more pixels(individual dots on your computer screen that make up the whole image) and the higher the pixel count(aka quality or resolution) means you can zoom in closer and keep the detail alot closer in.

And if you take a small resolution picture, and zoom in on it, it seems to get blurrier, but the higher the resolution, the more you can increase its size and keep detail.

I attached an example of a very high quality(over 1080p, which is better than an hdtv's picture, quality)

You should see a substantial difference between the previous sky texture, and this one.

And one way you can always find high quality images from google, is when you click on google images, click advanced search, type in what you want next to the "related to all of the words" section. then below you should see a little drop down box to the right of Size - - - - - - - - Return images that are -, and from the list select large, and click search! and thats all there is to it.

Scratch that again, it seems it was a driver issue, all I did was uninstall and reinstall my graphics drivers and it worked.

I'm hitting myself for not thinking of it in the first place.

I remember you from way back when, you were an old member even when I joined several years ago. Your tutorials helped me quite alot(I loved the one tutorial for the mouth, made me feel special when I finished it.) Your tutorials truly helped me in my quest to learn anim8or.

And BOB, perhaps you could try the internet archive, it stored caches of pretty much every website as far back as the late 90's

Ok I found a solution, it takes from the idea of creating a partition for another OS, only not as time consuming. I just simply created a virtual Windows 98 using Microsoft Virtual Machine and it works perfectly.

Maybe this could work for others with problems like this?

Thanks for the idea MP3D, but sadly that didn't work either, though it did help me get an older game I havent been able to get to work to work.

Though I did manage to get anim8or to work on a computer I got for 1$ thats running Windows 98(which I forgot is amazingly responsive), and I plan on upgrading that with a gig of RAM and a newer processor.

I appreciate the help all.

I was actually thinking about installing xp on a second harddrive that I could use for older programs and games, but the only other one I have is in a 1998 computer I bought(for parts) lying in my room, but I'm not sure it will be compatible, but maybe Ill give it a go. Thanks for that piece of advice.

Yeah I tried redownloading it, I downloaded both the preview and the previous version and no luck, and as to restarting my computer, I had it off all night and just tried running anim8or again and it didn't work. But thanks for the feedback guys.

Though I did get an idea of what may have happened, possibly when I got the new motherboard, the new chipset is whats interfering, I've seen people tell others that it might be because of a newer onboard chipset, I hope thats not it but it's a possibility.

So I've been using anim8or for about 5 or 6 years now, and I've used it on XP, Vista, and currently windows 7.

And just a second ago I tried to open anim8or, and it brings up the sudden "Anim8or.exe has crashed" so I think it's just a compatibility issue, but its already in compatibility for XP SP3, so I turn it down to SP2, still no luck, I turn it down to Windows 2000, still no luck, try admin mode, nope.

But the puzzling this is, I don't know what could've triggered this. I've gotten recent hardware upgrades recently but they haven't affected anim8or until now, new graphics card ran it fine, new processor ran it fine, the newest thing I put in was about a month ago was a new motherboard and I highly doubt it's that because I'm pretty sure I've ran anim8or with it installed before. And my version of Windows 7 is Ultimate 32 bit so its not the 64 bit OS issue.

IF you need my specs here they are

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3.0 not overclocked

ATI Radeon HD 4650

2 Gigs of DDR2 RAM

ECS Black Series GF8200A motherboard

The only time I've ever had this kind of problem was when I first got vista and that was solved with the Compatibility fix, any help on this is deeply appreciated.
