haven't tried it out yet but i have a suggestion/question. is it possible to save sets of selections? point, lines, faces, etc. the best feature i saw on blender was that you could save different sets of points. very helpful for organic mesh animation.

I saw on another thread that there's a program to convert openGl to direct x. search for something like that and see if that works.

You can try to search for a Win7 OpenGL driver for your chipset. A thrid party may have hacked one for you O.o

Version 0.97d has a few new things over previous versions, like the ART raytracer. There hasn't been a lot of development news or activity recently, but this program is coming from a single author, who is doing this in his spare time. I prefer Anim8or for its simplicity and ease of use, and I don't feel like a "Version 1" is needed. Have fun with it.

First place to start when looking for your graphics chipset is to look at Device Manager. They kinda buried it in Win7 but you can search for it on the start bar. There should be a "Display Adapters" listing. Thats where you'll find the options to update and such.  Since its Win7, there may not be an "updated" driver that includes OpenGL, and laptops seems to be the culprit when someone can't run Anim8or. Sorry if you knew any of that but there's not much else to do. Good luck.

There is a field on the extrude dialog that specifies how many units to extrude the face by. He has 20 on the tutorial, but you don't have to follow the tutorial to the letter. If 20 looks too thick, use a smaller number.  Just experiment with it and have fun. When you use drag/select to select all the faces, you can use the middle mouse button to deselect the top and bottom faces. There are a bunch of good tutorials on the forum, as well as an FAQ.  Read/watch those when you get a chance and they'll make 3D life easier. (Most members will refer you to those after beginner questions like this, anyway.)

It's all about whether or not your graphics driver supports OpenGL. I have Windows 7, 64 bit and it works fine for me. Laptop video chipsets for some reason have a problem with including OpenGL support. Try to search teh webz for a driver for your display driver that supports OpenGL. I did that for my laptop (it had vista) and it worked ok, except for the crashiness. It also broke my World of Warcraft playability, so I had to roll it back.

I actually did change and rechange all the compatiblity settings. At one point i got a black drawing area, but no splash screen and it froze when i tried to draw.

Hi Steve,

I had to stop using Anim8or when I got my Vista laptop (my fingers burn when I type that word).  I know that the graphical aspects of Vista prevent the use of Anim8or, and I have tried installing the "correct" drivers and turning off all the Aero themes. Didn't help.

So I was wondering if you thought a full screen mode would work, since it bypasses all the graphical junk that Microsoft thought would be a swell idea.

I tried to use Blender, which works on Vista, but it is a hopelessy cluttered and unintuitive mess.  I prefer Anim8or 100%. Please don't let the flame die out!!
