Finished Works and Works in Progress / Leocad and Anim8or

Make “Lego style” movies using free software. Use Leocad (free software) to create building block models similar to Lego, then import your models into anim8or and animate your creations.
Check my finished movie.

fTBxQ

You can download Leocad from  www.leocad.org  do the basic tutorial or you can import your building blocks into anim8or (remember to ungroup them). I got a good result using the 3ds export, but you can use .obj.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / DINO8OR

I first got interested in 3d graphics when I saw Jurassic Park in 1993. I am happy to include some of my anim8or dino pics.

Universal Pictures have announced the next Jurassic Park film will be called Jurassic World.
The studio's fourth instalment is set for a 12 June 2015 release, nearly a year later than previously stated.
Colin Trevorrow will direct the film, with Steven Spielberg being the producer.

My next anim8or creation is dedicated to the legendary Willis Harold O'Brien, who was an American motion picture special effects and stop-motion animation pioneer, is best remembered for his work on The Lost World (1925), King Kong (1933) and Mighty Joe Young (1949), for which he won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Is there anybody out there who remembers the 1933 King Kong? ???
It is one of my favourite movies. 8)

Depending on what your next project is? ??? You may wish to mix various rendered styles. Anim8or mimics traditional 2d cartoons, so why not mix 2d and 3d.

Also, it is possible to mix flat shaded and imported cut out images with 3d backgrounds. You could also have 3d characters set against 2d or cut out backdrops.

                                  2d Anim8or

Have you thought about creating your next animation project in 2d? ??? Anim8or mimics traditional 2d line cartoons.
2d toons are still very popular in advertising, children’s TV, adult animation and graphic design artwork, check out Sponge Bob and Family Guy.
Most 2d TV toons are created with vector software such as toon boon (pro bundle costing about $1500 also adobe flash pro costing $1035). This software is expensive and you have to draw your characters at different angles. The great advantage of working in a 3d environment, you can visualise your toons from different angles. ::)

It is easy to add shadows and add different coloured toon lines to your figures, rendering different coloured toon lines in blender was very difficult to achieve :'(, but it is easy in Anim8or.

Use simple morph targets to create mouth movements and exaggerated body movements.

Re-use walking, running sequences and hand gesture actions etc., this can save time.

Create your own unique style and you never know you could have global hit? 8)

Please review my you tube movie.

Please add any links which relate to 2d/cel shaded Anim8or work.

Check out link -

We are exploring ways to use Dogwaffle with anim8or, as well as using Anim8or with Project Dogwaffle. For example, how to paint textures and map them onto the 3D objects. Or how to create 3D shapes to make new fancy brush images. Or creating animations with anim8or, to then further improve and edit with post work in Dogwaffle. Another anim8or success story!

An interview with Italian animator/digital artist Davide Maugeri the creator of the mini movie Ugly Dino, created with anim8or.

The Ugly Dino link below
http://vimeo.com/8579083

THE INTERVIEW

:)-So how old were you, when you created the Ugly Dino movie?

Hmmm, I think it was around 2009-2010 so I was 20-21 years old.

:)-How did you get to hear about anim8or and was it your first 3d piece of software?

Well, I discovered it by chance one day, I was on vacation and I decided to buy this CG magazine back in 2005, in which I read about Anim8or for the first time. So I downloaded the software and started practicing immediately.

:)-How long did it take for you to create from start to finish?

About 8 months, actually. It was around March when I've had a flash of inspiration on turning the classic old Ugly Duckling fairy tale into a prehistoric revisitation of it. Then I started working on the project, I defined the personality and looks of the characters. They all were all great fun to make, especially Singe and Arnold (which has been a very tricky character and possibly one of the heaviest and most detailed rigs I've ever done in Anim8or). The whole thing came to an end during the Holiday season (December, if I'm not wrong).

:)-Did the Dino movie open up any doors for you?

It certainly did. I learned a lot about modeling-rigging-animation, in fact, 2009 was the year when I started studying Maya and created my very first animated short with it. Plus, I've had the chance to improve my screenplay-direction skills, which were a bit weak when I made Friend of Mine. I owe a lot to the Ugly Dino!

:)-What big projects are you working on now?

Well, I've been working at Rainbow CGI where I animated on an feature film called "Gladiators of Rome" (Gladiatori di Roma) and the 5th season of Winx Club. They both were a lot of fun to animate on. About personal projects, I've teamed up with some work mates and friends and worked on the pilot of a 3D animated serie called Befriend the Bull. After that, we started working on a brand new short which will be a big tribute to the genie of Jim Henson (and of course, Henson himself). It will feature two characters from one of his most famous series, Baby and Earl Sinclair from Dinosaurs, -completely rebuilt in CG- and some Muppets as well. It will be complete in a few months, and we really hope the Jim Henson Company will enjoy it!

:)-I noticed from your blog, that your Dad is the famous painter Stefano Maugeri, please tells us a little bit about your Father’s work and how it influenced you?

I consider myself lucky enough to have two parents who both have great artistic talent. None of them decided to work in the animation field, still I'm glad their artistic influences have combined and helped me create something new.

:)-What is your favourite all time animation movie, please tell us why you like it?

Heh, that's some question! I've tried many times to make a ranking out of my favorite animated film, but I just couldn't. It's like saying "Which of your brothers you love the most?" You love them all the same way. Of course, I'm particularly fond to all the Disney classics such as Brother Bear, Pocahontas, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid and so on. Their music, animations, characters and magic gave me a lot and made me the person I am today. As for the latest ones, I really loved Surf's Up, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Ice Age, Tangled, Toy Story, Shrek, Alpha and Omega, Niko & The Way to the Stars, etc.

:)-What do you hope to do in the future?

Well, I hope to improve my animation skills -I still have SO much to learn- and move abroad. I would love to take part of a big animation team and work on a great feature film.

Thank you Davide for the interview and I wish you well and more success in the future.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / 2D ANIMATION IN ANIM8OR
« on: November 22, 2012, 12:37:31 pm »
Hello all Anim8ors, I recently found an old drawing I made when I was a very young boy, so I decided to make it into a movie, a lot of people use flash and toon-boom for making traditional 2d animation but I prefer anim8or because building your 2d creations in a 3d environment has many advantages over the old fashioned vector technique. ;)
