Good points Hiho, I do tend to try to "finish" my work, which probably wasn't necessary in this comp.  The deadline has passed, so this should not be considered a final entry, but since the thread has not yet been locked I'll post the link here for the sake of continuity.

extraordinary 0.o, what was the rendering time...?

that's very hard for a beginner... you better start of with some tutorials and try to make some examples from the manual... ;)

You need to click on the lights as well to tell them to cast shadows.

thought he had already figured that out, since he was able to get a shadow on the grid, but indeed, that's shouldn't be forgotten ;)

double click the object that you want to receive shadow. In the pop-up screen, look down, there you can select wether you want an object to receive and or cast shadows.

Hope that enough ;) good luck

- can't get the light effects that simon showed in his example

so... any tips on glass atributes/textures and lightning?

Ah, already thought about that  :P (second render also stuck when finished) so here is my 'paint'-result.

+1 for the GIF, I hate it to convert a video to gif...

of course, didnt think of that.

started a big render about 6 hours ago, left to go swimming with some friends, when I return, the line is finished, but the buttons still show up grey (like it's still rendering) so I couldn't save it, so I'm starting it again =/

Thanks, I'll try that ;) but about the rough and specular settings; spec-0.1 and rough-250,000, and I don't see very much difference comparing with lower settings =S

thanks ;)

Working hours I really have no idea, but I guess about 8-10 hours... (excluding rendertime, of course :P)

The renders (1100x800) take about avarage 1.5-2 hours so far, longest I've ever had by far.
