General Anim8or Forum / creating/applying negative space?
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:10:08 am »
hello, anim8or community,

I was wondering if it's possible to create a shape/mesh and then apply it to a bigger shape/meshe, whereby creating in that bigger mesh an empty space in the shape of the smaller mesh. (Take cheese/cake slice and its "hole mazes" as an example: I can simply create a simple subdivided cube or 3D triangle , but I would need to make little holes in it. This would happen through the negative space of various circles being put it in.)

Thanks.

As a small sidenote, would anyone know how to create 1/3 of a cylinder that's hollow? Instead of a full circumference, I just need a 3rd of one. I'm aware that involving the  extrusion tool is part of one way to do it, but that's about it. haha

Ippena, the error message prior to the opening my 3ds file were a series of "anim8or can't open texture file:" pop-up windows. Are you sure that this is an illumiantion problem? How would I be able to fix it?

I'm sorry, I should have clarified: her 3ds downloaded with all the textures intact just fine, even if those texture files themselves weren't included in the winrar package.

My question is, how did she do this without having to include the texture files in the package? You stated that the texture files for my own 3ds is probably in a different folder than where my 3ds is saved, and they in fact are. On the other hand, will people only be able to open my 3ds if I included those t-files in the package I'll be sending them? How did my friend send hers without the t-files for hers?

Thank you for your response, Kreator.

A member from a different website was able to share a 3ds file with me, and part of her winrar download package didn't include the textures that made her object.

In regards to the black, I'm not so sure what you're talking about, provided that I'm an absolute novice in anim8or modding. Though, I'm more concerned about not having the textures than the fact that the object is black. 'Less the black has something to do with why the textures wouldn't load in the 3ds?

Hey all,
When I export my .an8 project into a .3ds file (object > export), all the textures were missing when I opened my newly created .3ds in anim8or. ("Just so you know...anim8or can't open texture file:____.jpg"). Instead, all of my project was turned up pitch black. How do I resolve this?
Thanks.

So, this evening, I ran into a new problem: lighting.

Looking at the most recent variant model that I'm working on, one can barely tell the dimensions that are applied to the borders of the chessboard: The red eretria inner border is supposed to be higher than the checks but shorter in height than that of the azulcielo outer border. Can you tell?

I realized that applying lighting to the different faces of these figures would solve this problem. is there such a feature in anim8or?

Thanks again.

Hello! How is everyone doing? I am your newest addition to the community.

I started using Anim8or a few days ago. Have a few project for TheSims 1 to create. haha

I've learned how to apply textures to objects through the material button, but a problem arises when I try to apply it to a cube (And perhaps some other hedrons?): The texture shows up nicely on the x and -x faces but is stretched to stripes on the other faces. I would like the texture to show up on all faces, but don't know how.

The anim8or guide mentioned the "face edit" tool, but I'm not sure how to use it, since, when I'm in the mode, it won't even let me select any object; nor am I sure if it's necessarily the tool to use to fix this problem.

Thanks greatly for your help!
