This one is mostly for Steve since he makes Anim8or. I was wondering, as a developer I am curious, what development environment you use to make it, and any libraries like MFC or so, or just raw Windows API calls.

However I want to be careful and not make the basic operation too complex because that can make it quite difficult for new users.


How about selectable "modes". The default is "basic" mode where the tools available are common ones new people will be using, basic usage tools and "advanced" mode shows more special purpose tools that the average new person will not be using right away, but in any mode all keyboard shortcuts are available. Just a thought.

That was pretty much what I had in mind, or an "execute command on completion" option, to either call a media player or a batch processor for the frames rendered.

Sorry if this isn't the correct forum for this, I wasn't able to tell.


I have a request that I hope won't be a problem, but I would like to see the ability to play a sound when rendering of animations is done. A lot of times I hit "render" then go do something, but the computer is within ear shot. Knowing exactly when the render is done would save the time after it's done to the time I check if it's done, which would be really nice. Again I hope this isn't too much of a big deal.

This might be off topic a bit, but how old is the original splash screen? I don't ever remember seeing another, and I've been using anim8or for ever.

What about a little competition for a new splash screen for the new alpha version 1 for anim8or? ??? of course it would have to be made with the latest beta version 1 and proof of anim8or files would have to be made available.  ;)


I never thought about that, but this is actually a good idea, I can think of two other 3D programs that holds a compo to have its users make the next splash screen (Animation:Master and Blender).


Worth a thought.

Can someone please explain the difference in the configuration between "Images" and "Textures" directory settings?

When I open the movie image properties dialog, and click inside "other" edit box, but don't type anything in, then click any other preset frame rate, I get an error that says "frame rate: malformed number". This may show up once, or infinitely and I have to kill anim8or with task manager. Keep in mind I don't click the "Other" radio box, just the edit box, then one of the presets.

Would it be too much trouble to ask for a few new options. Either the ability to change the default resolution of renders, or at least save the last used resolution between sessions. I just never find myself rendering at 400*300 myself


EDIT: Ok, it looks like the resolution is preserved in the file after you save, so I guess all I would like is to change the default for new projects

Under the "use shaders" option, what is the difference between the 2 options, and which one is the best option?

I believe multithreaded means it uses a seperate thread to render than the one it uses for UI, so the UI is still responsive. I believe the renderer is always single threaded
