Many thanks for your help Raxx, much appreciated.
There is nothing you need to aplogize for, you did not delete the post.

On the other hand, for as vocal as floyd86 was at the beginning of being a moderator why does he not speak up for himself ?
It's the least he could do, if only out of common courtesy.

With more than 10 years experience in hand coding web sites, I strongly advise floyd86 to better secure his account or tomorrow this whole board could be "accidentally" wiped out.

Again I would like to thank everybody who posted a comment on the WIP a car thread for taking the time and putting in the effort to write it, all of which is now equally lost.

If you want to continue to follow the progress of building the 2 CV then you can find it on my own board where it will not disappear. ;D

Also thanks goes to headwax for starting this thread.

Finally, I will now bow out of this forum, I had a great time here and got to know some lovely people but I will not be bullied by a kid whose attitude is bigger than his size.

Goodbye everyone and take care

the car one was deleted by Floyd86

Why am I not surprised for I did not delete my own post.

Floyd has been on the board since the last post and presumably has read the message that Raxx left for him; so, what gives ?

General Anim8or Forum / Re: .3ds made my wireframe wonky
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:37:43 pm »
As far as I know there is nothing to worry about. 3ds divides square faces into triangles and importing the 3ds file into another 3d software program should work without problems ;)

Raxx

Thank you, that makes it all much clearer. I already have thought up a scenario for the 10 sec clip.

Additional question : the separate 3 sec clip can it be related to the 10 sec, sort of an epilogue or does it have to be totally different ?

kreator

Thank you for your offer to upload my file should it be too big to go over the wire, very much appreciated.
I still have your address  :)

In this area, broadband is available but on a half-baked performance and even satelite struggles. Overall I'm fine on dialup for what I do and this would only be the second time I might need help with large files in over 10 years online. So not too bad.

I would like to contribute but for a few things ........

a) how do I know that the file is encoded "H.264/MPEG-4 codec with very low compression" i.e. into what should I convert the avi file ?

b) as a rough guess, how big could the final file be with the specifications from Raxx ?
I'm on dialup and cut-off after 2 hrs so if I can't upload the file within that time I might as well forget it

c) presuming all goes well and I can join in, a last point, I don't want my mug on the internet. Would a black and white shadow profile do as well ?

Btw, anim8or runs perfect if you are using Windows7. I didn't have any problems. Even if I am still using 32b, I have no idea if anim8or runs on 64b. Very soon, I'll need to work with 64b. Enybody has any ideea?

Hi Daniel,

I recently asked myself that same question just in case I need a new computer and .... what then, I have so much software which I would be reluctant to replace.

According to Microsoft :

Most programs designed for a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows will work on a computer running 64-bit versions of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs, and some hardware drivers.

Drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows don't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows.

etc.

so that's a relief ;)

Yeeees, your texture and your bump map should be applied the way it should look, i.e. for your medallion the teeth of the skull should be at the bottom.

I fixed your file and zipped it up together with the texture and bump map files -  see render - when you applied your texture you should have clicked the UV button and turned your texture around so it looked the right way.

I haven't looked at your an8 file but from your pictures it's obvious that your bump map is upside down, the skull stands on its head ;)

If you turn it around 180 degrees then it should work

Good news all over !

Anim8or works fine as it is and will certainly do so until a new release is available. Don't worry Steve, time is on your side.

I sure hope that your request is granted Raxx, fingers crossed.

« on: January 30, 2011, 03:03:59 pm »
I cannot but agree with all that has been said already.
Up to about a year ago this community was vibrant with creative Anim8or users and then it went slowly quiet until now when it's nearly dead but for a few committed members. It breaks my heart.

Through its ease of use Anim8or is the program that finally got me into 3D modeling and I will never "move on" to anything else, though I have several other programs, and that same reason will always keep attracting new users.

Not everyone is aiming for a job at Pixar and just having fun in creating something from scratch is what many hobbyists aim for. To all of them looking for an Anim8or only forum you are most welcome at 3d-anim8.com

I am not bowing out just yet, miracles do happen from time to time, and I hope to hear again from all members whose input I have appreciated over time.

To reduce the file size you could convert it from avi format to mpg forrmat, there are plenty of converter software programs available - some free, some not

What's happening to this project ?

Modeling mechanical "things" is not really my thing but I am interested to see some renders on how it's progressing.

Anyone knows ?

When in 1872 a photographer visited this newly created frontier town, above is what he saw then, below is what his photo would look like today (thanks to the magic of Photoshop)  ;D

It took only minutes to do the boardwalk with individual planks and it does indeed make the difference. Being a desert town, there isn't much "dirt" around but I have the sand dust clinging to the lower part of the facade.

Thank you for your kind comments. You are right about the patteren on the ground, this is a straight render, no post-processing, and I should have touched that up before posting.

That's some dynamic show you've put on !

Green screen / Chroma Key

You will love green-screening, it's easy and greatly reduces render times.
Two of the programs I use (both free) are :

CineGobs Keyer which lets you keep your object's shadow

and Wax

To finalize my western project "A native American" (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=3898.0) I had to balance it with a cowboy theme  ;D

So here's a little corner of a frontier town, enjoy
