General Anim8or Forum / Controller script blues
« on: June 15, 2008, 08:38:48 pm »
Hi all - I'm trying to get some understanding of controller scripts - especially spin.  The script I've been trying to use is from Beiderman's site, as well as assistance from Kreator, to spin in the Z axis

float $speed;
$speed = 5; /* Replace 5 by your value for speed */
$orientation = (0, 0, sin($speed*time), cos($speed*time));

I always get a Parse error in the last line and nothing happens.  Even tried leaving in the first default line, but no luck.  The one time when it did work, by some unknown luck, the object spun, but always at 1.5 rotations per second, anti-clockwise, regardless of me changing values, even inputting negative values.  Have tried in V.95 and .96a; same result.

Would very much appreciate some assistance here

General Anim8or Forum / Cloth folds
« on: April 17, 2008, 07:25:43 am »
Hi all - anyone give me some guidance on making decent cloth folds - I'm particularly trying to make sails like in the photo - especially the tension creases in the corners - whatever I do ends up either lumpy or with sharp creases -

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Not getting it
« on: March 22, 2008, 08:42:30 am »
Please excuse the ignorance - I'm trying out the ART attributes and just not getting it.  I'm trying to get reflections.  Set up three spheres with the same colors, went to attributes, typed in "glossyreflector" in the top attribute box, OK.  Also tried putting in "glossy" in the string box, played around with the settings 200, 1000 and 100000, as per Steve's example, in both the attributes dialog and in the material editor - rough and specular.  The results were exactly what they would have been without using the attributes.

I seem to be missing the point of where the values Ks and Kr values are input.  Also, I've not seem an explanation for "float",
"point", "int" and "orientation" types.

I guess i could learn a lot from the project files, but they're in code and I have no idea how to get them to become .an8 files :-[

Please help out here - I'm very excited about the new possibilities and rarin' to go - thanks a lot Steve.

General Anim8or Forum / Anim8or and Makehuman
« on: February 13, 2008, 12:27:22 pm »
I need to make a figurehead for a ship - used the head, hands and feet from a Makehuman object - when attached to my model, Anim8or went strange - when I tried to fill holes or detach faces, it simply shut down - no warning or error message.  Also slowed down badly.  Once it was removed, all was fine again.  Is Anim8or allergic to Makehuman?  Possible tri's vs quads?  If so, does anyone know of an app that I can use which is compatible?

I'm still trying to make faces with edge-looping, but am a long way from making passable feet and hands?

Edit:  I have found a workaround - instead of attaching the Makehuman object to the model, I only introduce it at the scene stage and parent it with the model - that way it gets used, but does not become part of the model, so doesn't affect it.

Still I would like to hear from others who have used Makehuman - or similar, with Anim8or.

General Anim8or Forum / Problem paintin weights
« on: January 22, 2008, 04:02:31 am »
A problem has developed when attempting to paint weights.  This has been working fine, but today, suddenly, when I select the tool and click on the figure, I get a shutdown.  Only had a couple of bones to go to finish!

Error message " drwtsn32.exe - Entry point not found.
The procedure entry point SymSetSymWithAddr 64 could not be located in the dynamic link library DBGHELP.dll".  When I search, I find six instances of DBGHELP.dll file - how come Windows (or Anim8or )  can't find it  ;)

I have occasionally had this problem when moving points with the slider - after shutdown I re-open and all's well - but not this time.  I have done a registry cleanup and rebooted, system restored - no luck.   Also tried with a fresh download of V096 - same problem in all my models.  I only ever have experienced this when working in Anim8or.

A possible clue - don't know how relative it is - before this problem started, the mesh in figure mode, with painting weights selected, was yellow, instead of the normal red, but worked just fine.  I then installed the cog plugin, made a few cogs and painted them.  One particular cog, when being painted, the paint would jump across and suffuse a whole area of the mesh in the vicinity - there were no connecting lines,  no overlap and the brush was not even close.  Other than that, the animation worked fine.  Have removed the cog plugin, but makes no difference.

Adding a mesh to bones works fine - its only when using the influences tool that the problem occurs.

Someone please help - would really appreciate advice as I love Anim8or and don't want to have to give up on it  :(

General Anim8or Forum / Twisted rope
« on: January 09, 2008, 10:57:25 am »
A while back I saw a reference to making twisted rope (if I remember correctly it was making two cylinders twist around each other) on one of the forums, but have searched them all and can't locate it.  Anyone know how to do this, or know where to find a reference? :-[

General Anim8or Forum / Edge properties
« on: January 06, 2008, 09:46:47 pm »
The model I'm making needs to be mostly smoothed, but parts to stay hard and sharp - I normally use edge re-enforcement, by cutting through close to the edge and this works fine, but in this model that method would be way too complex and really messy.  I tried using edge properties, with a setting of creased, value 2, but when I convert to subdivided
(just a single subdivision), there is no difference - everything is rounded.

What sort of settings should I be using? ???
