the planet is just a massive sphere with a texture map, basically.  the rings around it are made from a single cylinder with texture and trans maps applied, both caps turned off, lengh set to pretty much 0, and then crazy huge values entered for the diameters and longitudes.

the glowy atmosphere effect around the planet was done by putting several (about 5, i think) extra spheres around it, each a tiny bit bigger than the last, with a two-sided material, where the front was completely see-through (trans 0), and the back was quite high emissive, but trans 0.1 or 0.2.  so the closer to the planet, the more of these spheres you see, so the more opaque the colour becomes, creating the impression of a glowy atmosphere, which always stays around the rim of the planet no matter where you put the camera.

the whole planet-and-ring setup has to be really big to keep the impression of scale when you move the camera around.  on my first attempt the perspective didn't work, so i had to make the planet 5 times bigger or something 8/

it looks as though the eyes should fill those sockets, rather than being little bits in the middle of the sockets.  and it could do with a slightly less plasticky texture (perhaps use a texture map?), and some modelling for the insides of the mouth.  nice teeth, but it could do with a tongue and stuff as well.

otherwise, though, it's very cool.  related to the hutts at all?  i'd agree with ralf1324 that it's a bit scary 8Z

and i'll second hihosilver on asking for a wireframe 8]

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Space machine render

just remembered i rendered this a few weeks ago, so i thought i'd post it.  it's a giant crushing machine in orbit around a planet - it's part of a short film a friend and i are making, combining anim8or and terranim8or cgi elements, and some 2-d cel effects, with stopmotion animation.  this particular shot is the opening shot for the film, and was made entirely in anim8or.  the vid should hopefully be on youtube soon.

hope you like  :)

apart from the issue with longitudes, that's a really, really cool model.  my suggestion would be to stick with your current method, but use a cylinder with a much higher longitude setting for your subtraction mesh, like kubajzz said right at the end of his last post.

keep up the good work!

the video doesn't work on my computer, unfortunately.  maybe you could put it on youtube?

about your bone problem: i'm not an expert on bones, but i find sometimes that it works, or doesn't work, based on the viewpoint.  in other words, sometimes i try to rotate a bone and it doesn't work, but then i rotate the view a bit, and then i can turn the bone.  weird.  (anybody else get that one?)  don't know if that'll help you, but it might be worth checking.

just a thought - go to View > Preferences, and make sure the two 'Textures' checkboxes are turned on.  if you find they're turned off, then just turn them on (and then click 'OK', of course) and your problems might all go away.  hopefully.

that... is... just... unspeakably... amazing... probably the most awesome piece of anim8or modelling i've ever seen!  i find organic stuff near-impossible to build, so the fact that you've managed to do that with such accuracy is just mind-blowing.  dare i ask how long that took?

not to mention that it's rather creepy too B]

BTW, anyone know how to export a movie from Adobe that is not letterboxed? It only seems to happen when I export something from Adobe, as the Anim8or version w/o sound is not letterboxed.

i've never used premiere (although i have used several other editing programmes), so this is just a guess off the top of my head, but: if you rendered from anim8or at the default 400 x 300 resolution, premiere might have letterboxed it because it was set to output in a higher resolution eg. 720 x 576, and you have a 'keep original resolution' setting turned on somewhere.  if that's what it is, then the control to turn it off should be either in general program options, or in the right-click menu for the individual clip, i think.  alternatively, you could find out what resolution premiere is outputting at, and render from anim8or at the same resolution.

i could be completely wrong, of course, but that's my best guess.  hope it helps.  nice first clip btw  :)
