It's my watermark of my art username. It's Irish for "The Shadow Rider" which is my pirate persona that turned into my branding basically. Scámarca Productions, my channel name is the phonetic spelling of "Scáth Marcach"

I made this as an icon for the Anim8or Discord Server (Join here). It turned out pretty cute so I thought I'd share it.

Although... he is missing his signature Flamingo legs.

General Anim8or Forum / Anim8or Discord Server Link
« on: March 27, 2018, 07:59:15 pm »
I've started up a Discord server for the Anim8or community!

To join, make a Discord account if you don't already have one, and click this link to add the server to your list:
https://discord.gg/Ps2pRKq

Discord is a new group chatting program with many improvements and advantages to Skype. This server will serve as a casual chat room, showing each other progress shots, and answering quick questions to problems. There's even a voice channel.

Just click the link to join.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Discord Group?
« on: March 27, 2018, 01:46:37 pm »
How would the group be used?

Would it be casual visits or structured around events, e.g. demonstrations / tutorials, etc.?

Mostly casual chatting/showing off and a way to get quick questions answered immediately. It could have most of the same channels as we have here on the forums.

I don't know what 'discord' is other than what I see by glancing at their webpage, not sure that I get it.  If you have a multiplayer game then I can see that voip and shared scene views improves the gaming experience.   How would Discord be used?

Discord is the new, better group chatting program opposed to Skype, and it's knocking Skype out of the water as far as performance and features go.

The site's description can be misleading. Yeah it's good for gaming, but its primary feature is a group chat system with categories.

As opposed to Skype, you can make different "channels" in your group with different topics where people can chat about different things in different rooms, all on the same group. You can even add permissions on who can post where and see what.
Voice chatting is immensely improved as instead of one person calling everyone to chat and bothering everybody, there's a voice chat channel always open that you can click to join and talk to anyone who happens to also be in the voice chat room.

General Anim8or Forum / Discord Group?

Have we ever thought of having an Anim8or Discord group? I remember when we had a short-lived Skype group a long time ago that eventually died.

I'd be willing to start one if nobody else is, and if there's interest for it.

Hey guys, here's a finished clip! I actually posted this some time ago, but I hadn't posted it here!

While I was waiting for a reply, I discovered how to manually enter in the orientation. Thank goodness. I wish I had discovered it sooner.

General Anim8or Forum / Mouse Sensitivity?
« on: September 15, 2017, 08:38:01 pm »
I'm not sure if that's even the right word, but it seems like no matter how far I'm zoomed in and I try to rotate something, it always rotates at the same increments.

When something isn't aligned exactly parallel to the ground, my instinct is to rotate it until the lines are straight. If it moves too much, then I zoom in and think it will move at smaller increments relative to how far I'm zoomed in. But it seems to be rotating the same amount no matter how far I'm zoomed in, or how slowly I move my mouse.

Is there a setting to change this sensitivity? I'm guessing not, but I thought I'd bring it up because I can't fix this and it's driving me crazy:

Here's the first background done in the new method!

3D:

Painted:

Compare to what was done with a Perspective Grid:

If I had done this the old way with perspective grids, this could have taken me up to two days to finish. With painting over the 3D model, it only took me one hour!

I had been using perspective grids before. It worked but it was VERY tedious and made background art a lot less fun.

I just found yet another use for Anim8or in this project!

So there's a show on Youtube that I watch called "Scribble Kibble", where she analyzes animations and explains how they did them. This past week, she talked about an anime where they would draw the background art on top of 3D models to keep the perspective accurate and consistent, and I thought... by george that is GENIUS!!!

Perspective and geometric shapes are one of my weaknesses, which is why so far only the ships are 3D. This method takes ALL THE GUESSWORK out of it! I just make a super basic 3D model of everything that's going to be in the scene, put the camera where I want it, and draw all the parts on top of it! IT'S BRILLIANT!

Here's a few shots of the interior of the cats' ship:

By the way, work on Galacticats is about to move forward full force! With another Projects class this semester, I was worried I was going to go another several months without getting anything done. However, I had a genius idea! Why not kill two birds with one stone and animate a scene from Galacticats for my project?

AND IT WAS APPROVED!

So hopefully by the end of this semester (in December), I will have one fully animated and polished clip finished!

Now that I'm finally back to work on Galacticats, I'm trying again to design the dog's ship.

There were a lot of changes I wanted to make, but unfortunately I somehow lost the original file. It was just gone. I did a search through all the files on my computer on both drives, and it was nowhere to be found. I guess it got left behind when I changed computers, and then got wiped with what was left on my laptop. I think that by rebuilding the ship model, the overall shape has improved a lot.

The idea is generally the same, but I added these opening ear flaps that reveal engines, which I really liked that my friend OrionShipworks from DeviantArt suggested:

I also changed the color. The more I looked at it, the more I wasn't fond of that rusty orange color. So the obvious answer was to take the cats' ship, and invert the colors. And it looks AWESOME. Now I have a new color scheme for the dogs' ship (minus the green). I mean yeah, it's got pink on it, but it still looks ANGRY, you know? I'll definitely be adding some embellishments to it, possibly making a Galactic Canine Empire logo. But I'll probably brighten the maroon color so it pops out a bit more from the background:

And finally, here's an animation of the "ears" opening. There are no outlines yet so it looks a bit weird, but you get the idea.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Move the Rotation Axis?

Oh wow, that was right in front of me. How did I miss that.

Probably because I assumed it was something I wouldn't understand and ignored it. Lol

General Anim8or Forum / Move the Rotation Axis?
« on: August 09, 2017, 12:57:45 am »
This is a problem I've had a lot with my Anim8or projects. The rotation axis, or "center" of the mesh, gets moved far away from the actual center of the mesh. Or where I really want it to be for that matter, and then when I want to rotate it, it gets shot off into space.

Back in the day, stretching the mesh in Object/Edit mode would usually reset it, but that's not working anymore. Is there an option to move the axis? I can't find anything.

Thanks everyone! Now it's back to Galacticats!

Unfortunately somehow the spaceship I built for the dogs disappeared, so now I have to redo it. Must have gotten lost when I changed computers or something. Oh well, I wanted to change some things anyway.
