Render one with shadows just to see how it looks - For us I mean. I bet it will take a long time with all that detail.

That is some really good work and I can't wait to see the finished work.

Using a local light gives it a mysterious look and keeps your attention.

Why do these take so long you ask. If you look at a drinking glass it has a thickness. I shell the drinking glasses to give it a more realistic look. That is what takes a such a long time to render.

Rendering them at 1024x768 doesn't help.

I was playing around with optics using dielectric - I render this in object mode for a quick look and this is what I saw.

I've posted two pics - one to show the objects before the render and one after the render.

General Anim8or Forum / After 3.5 days of rendering - All was lost!
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:33:53 am »
After rendering for 3.5 days on a project that was only for 10 seconds my computer wanted to restart with a windows update. Well the funny thing is, my computer was not hooked up to the net at that time, but it did download an update earlier that day, but I did not want to to install at that time. So for what ever reason it installed anyway at 3:50am and I lost it all. The avi file was corrupt and could not be used.

So please do yourself a favor and turn off your windows update before you render animation and disconnect from the internet or just use a different computer.

7.5 seconds were rendered - I was so close! wah! wah! wah!

I don't mind waiting for good art. If it took 3 or 4 days to render one pic because of caustics, that is good for me. To me, quality is more important than speed. To have a program that is as user friendly as this, with as much as it has to offer, as far as I know, this is the best program on the market.

Hope one day you go caustic - I would pay for the up grade. There are programs out there that do caustics, but they are built for certain programs. One of them you can buy for a little over $200.00.

Make one for anim8or - I'd be willing to pay!

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Caustics - How would this look?
« on: August 30, 2008, 04:34:50 pm »
Hi Steve, just trying to inspire you when it comes to caustics. Can you imagine how this would look if caustics were involved. I rendered this at 1024x768 with the AA set to 16; this took about 8 to 10 hours.

I didn't render with shadows because of the look I was going for.

This is just 400x300 to save space.

No matter how high I set the AA to, the shadows are not smooth. I have tried setting the AA to 64, 81, 100 and it still looks the same as 9, 16.

I rendered the same in scanline and it comes out just fine.

The shadows are not smooth even on the sphere.
