I am still new to anim8or but I had nothing to do so I made a sword. Its not the greatest as you can tell but what do you think. Any tips, or just critiqe me. The first sword was the first one I have ever made and the second one is my latest. You can see the improvement.

One key suggestion that will make your renders look better --- always use some anti-aliasing, which will reduce or eliminate the "jaggies" that show up along curves. You can set AA in Scene mode by clicking Render > AA Filter... I suggest you check the 3x3 Bicubic AA filter.

as far as texture goes you can raise the specular and brilliance a bit to get a more metallic look on the metal parts. to much itll look like plastic though. and the aa filter will make a world of difference in the render. you also could use the scene mode to get some shadows and different lighting effects on the swords. just some ideas. other then that they are a decent start

hey thanks alot everybody my sword looks alot better but what is a good brillance value to make it more like metal?

Try turning up the 'specular' value a bit and adding an environment map, but turn down the value of the environment map too something like 20 or so.

I would say use an environment map on the "metallic" parts, even if its not turned up very much, to give them all a shiny reallistic look. Also i've used bump maps on handles (when i made weapons) to simulate a cloth texture and on the blade to try and show the imperfections that come from days of hammering
. All in all great start! These are just some tips to help you make the best of your models ^__^

Good swords. Though they don't look that realistic. They look like toy swords. You need t add texture to the blade and the grip. Other wise it's good
