I went to school for Graphic Design but there were a few classes to introduce me to 3d modeling, but they didn't touch animation.

When I went to school 3D CGI and animation was the exclusive domain of very high end computers, with astronomical price tags, and was produced by a very few studios worldwide who could afford such hardware.  Movies like Tron and The Last Starfighter came out while I was in school, and the only computers our school had were a couple of IBM office machines and a bank of Commodore 64's.  I did learn graphic design and communication at high school, but it was entirely non-computerised, cartridge paper, Rotring pens and set squares being the order of the day.

 Nope.   Smiley
Easiest, cheapest option where i live is learn yourself.
Pick stuff up from trial/error and internet.

Would need to move a hundred miles away and pay big money for 3D modelling/animation school.

Mind you, would've saved a lot of wasted time, frustration, and silly mistakes, if i had been taught some basic ins and outs at the beginning.

I'm currently in high school, I intend to do a CGI related course in university, or just go to the online university Animation Mentor.
Same as johnar, taught my self, I'm sure every CG artist I know did the same.
