Latest Update:

Hey Guys! Long time since I posted a project.. here is the reason why;

I've been modeling an Audi TT, my favorite road car. I'm usually not a big fan of modeling cars in 3d, but I wanted to try to push anim8or to the limit with a model/render, and thought a car would be the way to go with the features available in anim8or at this moment in time.

I'll start off by posting the final image.
It doesnt have fresnel reflections since the car paint come straight out of anim8or.

Here is a clay render

Rendered in Art in about 10 different renders, layered together in photoshop.

I've combined the layers in such a way in photoshop that I can change the color of the car quite easily, with a solid color or a combination of colors, like this yellow and orange paint job:
This has a fresnel reflection

Here are a few shots of the model inside anim8or:

For who is interested, I kept track of all the render times, it totaled at almost 100 hours.

I'm thinking about making a little video about the model, I can't make it in full color/shading of course, with 100 hours/frame. I'll have to figure something out if i want to do that..

Any comments are welcome! Hope you enjoy it.

OH, btw, here is a detail shot of the brake dish.. I might make some more detail renders later on, render times are a bit slow so it can take a while.

Sweet jesus $imon.  I was convinced that was your reference at first then I read your post.  Honestly, especially with Anim8or... brilliant job mate.  Simply brilliant.  You've definitely just set another limit people can aspire to in Anim8or.  Truly amazing stuff.

I LOVE IT, can I marry your car?

Just as a question, how did you get the edges so perfect, when I make my vehicles, I always end up making somthing a little bumpy? If you know what I mean

Wow thanks guys for the great responses. I'm glad you all liked it!

davdud: I'm afraid they wouldn't be impressed at Audi .. I will have to improve quite a bit for that to happen.

cooldude; Mostly it is experience with smooth surface modeling, a hint i can give you is this: I poly-model everything, I start with lining out a large segment (say draw a line from one side of the hood to the other side, then cut it in half, adjust that poly to the angle it should be, then refine further. So start with the rougher shape and smooth it out from there.

yea ur a badass.

but i think if we wanna get technical you have some triangles there.

but whats good is good. (thats what i say anyway)

so did u tetxure it all, or is that in post production? u mentioned u figured out an easy way to change the car color on the fly. + u said u had 10 different renders. either i have alot to learn or im doing it wrong cause u make everything look so much better.

anyway great job on the model. the onlything ic as an easy fix is by the windows. theres way 2 much going on by the tires and the break pads for me 2 even look at it. great job.

This is exactly what I would have said.

Truly amazing work, $imon! Cheesy  I don't think anyone will top that for a while. Have you sent it to Steve for the gallery?
Keep it up, I've always been a fan of your work.

davdud; haha tnx.. it can still get more realistic though! (something I admire: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=132&t=749021 )

Heh thanks rellik..

Triangles... On the whole car there is a total of 4 triangles (except the headlights or windows, which arent subdivided), all placed there by lack of alternative Wink If it is correct they dont effect the flow of the model.

I had to render it in several passes (the whole car without shadow, and a pass with only shadows) for the sake of render times. In photoshop I can change the color that goes beneeth the shadow/reflection layer, which essentially changes the color of the car.

Thanks 3Dgeek! The gallery would be an honor I think one should be invited to Wink
