Attached is a script to do what you requested.  It will select the points of any edges and/or faces that are selected and de-select the edges and/or faces that were selected.

Edges and Faces are both handled by this single script.  I originally wrote a script for Faces and another script for Edges, then realized that there should not be a conflict having them in the same script.

Hi thank you for the script. I applied  the "convert to subdivided" to a mesh and tried to use the script on the surrounding cage of the mesh. Maybe there is something I am not doing right? It worked fine for me on a normal mesh. If it is not too much trouble could you have a look and try to get it to work on subdivided as well? I am using Anim8or version 0.98. Thanks again.

Command Script can't work with Sub-Division, so it will not be possible - model4me
