I'm not sure what you guys mean by scaling the castle, is it just making it bigger or have the windows of the towers smaller? I actually now have an idea on how to do those bricks, I'll test it out today. Remember, today will be the last posts made by me. From tomorrow, i hope someone else can produce further on what i have started.

Sorry, but you're all wrong I'm afraid, the official title is "Portals" but sometimes refered to as "Turrets". I know this because I still have all the paraphanelia from when I visited "Neushwantien" (you know, the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" castle). A bit of useless info there

Quoting myself: "One more thing - It should be done on bigger scale to get the right perpective. Try to aim for realistic size as I did with tower , so the castle is in right proportions with human character models we will have there. So the camera can pass very near the wall, or through gate, without wall or gate actually dissapearing couse of camera beeing too close."

I mean actually scaling the objects bigger, maybe 4 to 8 times bigger (a wild guess...)- I can do it if you don't get what I mean... yea - I you want someone to finish the castle couse you can't couse you don't have time - I can do it then.
And... what bricks are you talking about - the 3D or texture? -I have some nice textures and I'll do some test shots in few hours... , so we can agree on which textures we like the best...

Ok startrekfan , It's actualy 10 - 12 times scaling needed.

But I was playing around with main castle texture and this are 4 types of textures that I like best - you chose which you would like me to do.

1.

Two more pics of this texture:

Okay, my last answer for the time coming:
mr.Smeagol, i think i like that 3rd texture (counted from above) the best. But if you are gonna do more on texturing, keep this picture in mind:

this is the picture i have been modeling my castle around. I use it as reference pic, and i hope anyone of you who's gonna work on the castle will use this pic too as reference. mr.Smeagol, thanks for the help with the castle, and unfortunatly i'm gonna have to say goodbye and good luck.
machineman9, as i saw you are currently not modeling (correct me if i'm wrong :S) anything, do you have interest in continuing along with mr.Smeagol? The main thing to what must be done are the turrets(i dont give a shit how theyre called, but lets just keep it on turrets) and the doorway must be smoothened. And of course small mesh details are still to be added.
Whoever is going to work further on the castle, thanks in advance for helping, and to everyone here: "live long and prosper"!
(and better make sure the same's gonna apply to the movie )

Machineman, there is a site that you can go to, http://anim8or.cabspace.com/
It is full of links to the various parts of the project. If you think of something that should be added, just tell me.

Mr. Smeagol, right as usual. I was trying to say that we should scale the castle not the people, but if you ever need to make small things look big, you can change FOV. Clipping ranges- the thing you set in "Advanced" under "Environment." It seems to work for the camera only, when you're making something big parts of it disappear- I'll have to read that tutorial.

I thought a portal was what you jumped through to teleport someplace. Portal's fine, who cares anyway as long as we know what we're talking about without having to think about it to long.

Machineman, you could model a sack of gold or a pile of gold for the dragon cave... or maybe a rough wood torch... or a little bird for some outdorr scene...

what exactly should be drawbridge?
are we gonna do it like on this reference pic:

Or you had something else in mind?

.....
Edit:
I'v done some work on the castle and uploaded it on Yahoo so you can see it...
You got to give me some C&C !

ps.-have you noticed the new filesize?

pps.- P_R7 - great voice sample you'r cool And you'r righ about you being best for Smidgeon! I agree 100%.... I havent decided which off the characters I'll do yet... just give me another 24 hours to study the parts more deeply (the ones you said I could do )

ppps.-(lol)- Dark Saruman ,(if you still remember him - he made the torch for tower) - he'll probably post his voice sample soon

ok, no more ps.'s lol

Ok,
Startrekfan, I'm glad you found time to make it. I fixed proportions - now it looks more like that from the reference pic
And I saw that you went doing it with subdividing and edge properties - never go that way if you want to subdivide just few edges - I remade them pint by point. And reduced the render polycount by 50 times maybe...?

well... check it out, it's on yahoo now
(EDIT: Actually it seamed unpractical to put just bridge so I deleted just "bridge" I uploaded and imported the bridge into the castle.zip )

here is a screenshot:

I hope you'r learning something from looking at me fixing your models hehe
I'll fix 1000 models - as long as you keep analising your mistakes and keep improving your abilities as you do now
good work on the bridge btw!

The castle and drawbridge are looking good, great work guys!

I'm looking forward to Dark Saruman's voice sample.

feeg, sorry about your laptop! You can get some kind of USB soundcard designed from laptops from Turtle Beach, don't know how good it is or how expensive. But it's supposed to be better quality than a laptop's default card.

Monkey boy, is there any fighter jets in the movie? 'Cause I just made a fighter jet... usually models are made for a movie, not vice versa. But we might be able to put that fish under the bridge, or a transmap of him since he'd be underwater and visible only as a dark, moving shape anyway.

It's really a cool fighter jet.

The deadline for the actors to be cast is almost here, as Yahoo has probably reminded you. I think we'll probably have to move it, yes? And does anyone besides Mr. Smeagol have comments on my part?

why not let that fish jump out of the water a few times? like a threat to strangers: "this castle is guarded by a shark. enter at your own risk". but first of all, monkeyboy, you must turn antialising on and then post the pic again. We'll have a better interpretation of whats it going to be then.

Fish is cool, nice design... but it needs AA (antialiasing) and it lacks textures on flippers... and it has kind of funny face- maybe it needs mouth ? lol Put it on yahoo

Don't give up so qickly - have you tried to find the kidnapper of the mem. stick? As... where did you lost it and when and stuff...maybe you can find out who stole it or make a list of suspects or something?

You gonna rebuild what you have lost? you mean .an8 files? if that's so, I would go on and consider everything done b4 to be practice, and start making new models and new stuff instead of rebuilding all of the old stuff... just a suggestion....

ps. Have you maybe checked out the video tut I made 4 you?

i have told before that i am doing a movie project myself for my school, and those files were going to be used in that. So i might make better things, but certainly not something total different. And until now i have missed 2 lesson hours on school - my teachers granted me free - to find my memory stick, i have been researching in the lunchtime and checked all the files available on which classes were after me in the classroom where i lost it, etc. , i have been searching toroughly for it. Anyway, thanx for the compassion from you guys, its good to know some people care.

Well, I have a bit of good news. I've been talking with Syziph, and he'll probably be joinnig us when we start anim8ion. In the meantime, he's donated his horse. It's at the Anim8or Movie Zone. It needs reworking, texturing and the proportions may be off. He's already rigged it with a program he's writing but we'll probably lose the rigging texturing it. He probably won't be around much, but we can reach him at his email if we need him.

I have 3 more days to finish the script, so you might not hear from me either.

WOW !!! I just can't believe it !! That horse is sooooo awesome!!!!!!
and the anathomy... I'm speachless...

It's like way better than any horse I could come up with !
BIG thanks to Syziph, and thanks to PR_7 for contacting Syziph!

About the horse: I noticed some small rigging bugs - but nothing I could fix, no way, if it was my horse it would have even more rigging bugs... lol, it's so small it doesnt matter anways - let's just hope it won't show up in anim8on... ^-^

About the texturing... do we need fur? ... I think maybe the fur texture will be good enough...

Another few things - the horse's hair is only half of it, like it should be mirrored along ...x axis?.. i think...
And the rigged versions don't have hair!... that's too bad... so now we have to import it and ad it to object & figure and rig the hair.

quote:
It needs reworking, texturing and the proportions may be off

I think reworking should just be that hair thing... and it's lacking eyeballs in some rigged files (not all i think).
texturing definitly... maybe I can do that part....
You think proportions are off? .... why? I think they'r almost perfect... Maybe if you fell some proportins should be fixed - fix them - fine by me

quote:
He's already rigged it with a program he's writing but we'll probably lose the rigging texturing it.

a riging program! cool! is it finished yet?
I don't se why would we lose rigging by texturing it... am I missing something here?

Ps. Have I said how good that horse is?

Hey guys. This project sounds REALLY interesting. however, it spunds like it's pretty much already rolling. Is there anyway I could join it? I don't have very much modeling skills, but I would love the practice. And I might be able to help out with voices. It's just kind of hard because the script isn't posted here so I can't read it

EDIT: I just remembered, I have a terrain maing program that works REALLY well. If you guys want to look it up on www.d-grafix.com, it's called T.ed. And I could use it for this project if you like. unless you guys want to stick to useing Anim8or throughout the development process, then that make sense .
Anyways, I havn't finished reading all the pages to this topic, I'll need to though for the obvious reasons before I join.

One thing that I might be able to help in is textures. I own a lot, and I know where you can get free textures. Also, if this project isn't going to be selling (which I fully agree with) then I think a lot of my friends would be able to make textures for me to give to the project. Oh yeah, and just incase it matters, I'm 14 years old (Hope I'm not violating any rules with saying my age).

Anyways, I'll get back to reading. But would someone be able to post the script(s) or give a link to them so I could read them?

P.S. I'm not sure if it's already finished, but I also have a program for making trees. You can search on google for it, it's called Treemagik G2, but the next version was supposed to be out 2 months ago (Treemagik G3), it makes STUNNING trees! The version I have would be better for making the trees in the distance, but you could always just use a texture for those or something. Anyways, the trees are also low-poly, like, averaging at 150-200.

I don't think it's finished, he probably would have posted something if it was. It's called Wieghtpainter, and you put textures with the names of your bones on faces, and it paints each face to a certain bone based on the texture name. He even has a neutral value.

When you export it to UVmapper, i think it might change the point's numbers. Or else it's when you try to put it in the object that's attached to the figure... anyway. We'll find out.

I think the head is too wide. everything else looks good.

By "hair", you mean "mane" The thing on the neck? Maybe we could copy it or something.

I think it's cool too.

Welcome! There's no age limit, though we're trying to be mature and nice to each other. But that shouldn't be hard. We have been trying to keep to Anim8or for most things, but that might not be possible, what does everyone else think?

Blockbuster film? I doubt it. But thanks anyway.

Yo, Codfish!

Benney, the last version I have is .85. Sorry.

Oh yeah, I'm working on character concept art, the first is in my photo album on the Yahoo group.
