Hey. It's me again, I've read all the many pages in this topic, and everything on Theater375's forum (nice job by the way!) and now I feel I'm ready to help. I would love to do a voice for a character. It seems that all my favorite characters have been taken, except for one! The Consultant! I'll make a voice sample tomorrow maybe. The sad thing is that my sister just bought a Dell lappy, and it would be nice to use for recording because I could then go into my medium sized closet (resently cleaned on request from my mum) and make the sample. This would reduce unecessary noise.

Man, I know how STF must feel with losing his flash drive. My sister (same one that bought the lappy) lost her flash drive. It had all her most important things on it, websites, school, personal projects, etc.

Another thing, I own A LOT of models because I do game design. I have something like, 700-900 models. Several things stood out when reading the the pages here, such things as:

Rocks,
Plants, (Grass, and other types of vegetation)
A medieval styled (wood) mug and bowl
Barrels (old wood ones)
Beds
Skeleton
Human Models (WW2, but they could probably be retextured. You would just need to take off the helmet and such)
Gold Bars
Chairs (Might need a retexture for this movie)
Etc, Etc...

The list goes on and on. The problem: most of these were made in MAX. But some (quite a few) were made in Anim8or. Another thing, I didn't make the models. I've received them from many people. Most people that gave me the models have said that I could use them royalty freem in any project. However, some of them I can't. So I'll have to trace most models back to their owners before I post them on the Anim8orMovieZone site. By the way, I still need to register there... oops
Welp, I better go. Tell me what you think about the models...

P.S. One more thing about the models. Even though I have... a lot of models, only like, fifty would apply to this project, and I could only use, like 25 because of copyright issues, and because some of them I am not allowed to use for public projects (as explained above), and because I think, as I believe others think, that most the models made for this project should be made useing Anim8or. Anyways, toodly pip, I must go

By "hair", I mean "mane", yes, I just didn't know what was it called and I wos to lazy to look in the dictionary lol, I knew you would get it

well... I made some concept art on princes Postula, It's on yahoo also but here it is in swf format (extremly low size in Kb and infinite quality )

Hey sunflash... corect me if I'm wrong but I think that laptops usually have weaker audio cards than PC's... Check the quality of recorded audion on the lap and then see if you think it's satisfying...
Maybe we even could use *some* of the models you offer... if they'r good enough, for example that tree of yours is cool for being like at least 10 meters away from camera - but it wouldnt look very pritty in a close shot... couse It's >extremly< low poly.

About the terrain, I'm wondering how is it exporting - what happens to texture then? I dont think we'll be able to import it along with texture in anim8or - correct me if I'm wrong.
And can it export env cubes ? That would be usefull .. if the T.Ed has more than one env cube...

I'd like we stick as much as possible to anim8or but we might cheat here and there and use some other programs like ted - or like the models from max... but only a little bit!

We actually started making this movie to show the world how good anim8or actually is !
So I think at least 90% of stuff should purely be anim8or made.

Yes, thats why I thought it best to use your trees for the close ups, and mine for the "trees in the distance" shots. They're low poly, so they'd be good in bunches, and you don't see exactly how low poly they really are when they're all put together. It looks better... I think. Plus, if the new version of the (Treemagik) program comes out, the trees made with it will be trillions times better... but yes, it's total cheating.

Well, they can export into .X format (I can then convert to .3DS, and then to .An8)
while the texture will export to a "supersize" texture, which is basicly, if you didn't know, is when the texture has been shrunk. When it is applied to a very LARGE object (such as terrain) it can be stretched without loss of data. I don't know how you would ever apply it to the terrain, but I guess people do. It's used mostly to save space in 3D Games. But it would save scores of space for this project. Well I don't know. Maybe you guys know how those textures work. I still need to get a book on the matter.

Yes, I feel the same way about this. So any donations I make, should be minimum (besides things made with Anim8or).
lol, but hey, it's not totally cheating, this could show the power of Anim8or's Import features. lol, we may even get funded by T.ed to put terrains in:-).

Hi! Just though i'd say I really think it would be great if this movie worked and that I would love to help! I am quite good at script/screenplay writing and wouldn't mind attemting that! I am also quite experienced in musical composition but it seems MP3D would do a better job of it! I am good at 2D graphics to promote the movie (eg.: posters). I am also good at editing and would be more than happy to edit the movie. I havn't read all the posts to this thread and so I'm not really sure what's going on but it seems you're waiting for version 1.0. But atleast we can get script writing and stuff out the way first. I also think we need to have a "manager"/"Leader" or "Director" is the word i'm looking for! Then he can assign people to jobs and we can get movie making! This would mean we would need to communicate with an instant messenger or email maybe? Hope I will be of some use anyway!

Sunflash - about the terrain textures, I think you'r reffering to seamless textures whaen texture seamlessly repeats itself, I used that on the bark of my tree for example, and there is no better way i can think of texturing anything big, especially landscape. The only problem i have is that there may only be one big seamles texture on one landscape, and if I, let's say, add anotherone, like when i want sandy area or road, I must mix all kind of seamles textures on the polygon base, and that's kind of tricky, I dont know how T.Ed does it... it probably has some sort of more advanced seamles texturing ability...

Maybe you mean totaly big texture for whole landscape that's already uv-mapped by T.Ed, texture like 9000*9000 px... that big textures are veeery hard on ram / virtual memory of the PC, and also we should keep our models and everything small enough to be able to upload it to yahoo, or share it in any way with other members.

Nope, I know how seamless texturing works, it's one texture that is shrunk, but when strtched could fit over the terrain. I'll post a sample texture later

I can't see the images! I even turned off my browser's image acceleration in case that was doing it! SWF is a vector format, right? I think I have a prog that can open it if this computer can't view it, could you email it to me?

I've been thinking about that. Anim8or is optimized for ease of use, not photo-realism renders. Still, many people have the misconception (probably from Robin) that that's all Anim8or can do. We can smash THAT little stereotype while we "develop our skills and learn teamwork and dedication" (loose quote from the progress page, which needs bumping again. )

As it says on the Progress Topic (which needs bumping) the project is very democratic. Scriptwriters get a say in things dealing with script characters, musicians in music, etc. Since nobody's getting paid, everybody does what they want. It's worked so far anyway.
To everybodyHowever, we need to draw up a list of models needed/wanted and other stuff for everybody thatcomes in and wants something to do. We had one of those but it needs an update.

Ok, here's the sample of the Supertexture:

This gets stretched over a large terrain. As you can tell, this isn't a seamless/tileable texture. And just so you know, you can change the size of the image, this is just my default size.

Also, Valve (company that made Half-Life) used supertexures in Half-Life, so you can (if you own the game) look throught he texture directories and see the textures. And yes, the texture is properly mapped to the terrain, you just might have trouble getting it to work in Anim8or

Sure you can call me M (or MMM might be better to help distinguish)! I'm glad thescripts sorted but would have loved to have had a go at script writing! Not to worry! I'm sure I will do it for another project! I have been using Windows Movie Maker to edit movies for about 2 years now and have produced some pretty good outcomes! Don't think that using a free programme (yes WMM is free) for editing will make the final outcome look bad becuase i've really streched Movie Maker! I am starting to study XML code (this may make no sense to you)! which means I can create custom transitions, effects and titles (don't worry if you didn't understand that. it just means I can create some cool stuff)! I would be more than happy to edit the movie as I enjoy doing it!I'm not sure how good my internet speed is but it is broadband and I believe is quite fast. I suppose we'll worry about editing once the production stage is complete.

I have a few questions first.

What will the title of the movie be? Or is it Anim8or Movie?

What stage are you at production wise?

Have you covered lip sync as I hear that's hard!

and last of all do I get the part of editor?

Well I said i would post a progress report on the fallen trees so i'll just post one model ( i am working on a couple )

Now for the Q:

How will i make the "puffy part" at the top of it ( i forget the name ) or is it even needed could i just make some branches sticking out?

Any other suggestions?

Nice concept art for the Princess i like the blonde and blue hair the best, the red doesn't really fit her character.

Hey guys, I've been sick since sunday. I'm still kind of sick, and currently have no voice. So until my voice is able to speak normally again, I won't be able to record. Hopefully it will come back soon. I've got to do some homework and then get some much needed sleep.

Wow, thats really helpful! it's really easy to use. I found a program to, It's called Dark Voices (I believe). I find a link...

It's used for lipsync. The only problem is, you would have to make some basic animation in each character, then use this program. It will then give you a .lipsync file. This contains all the data for the animation. So the question is, how can we get it to work properly in Anim8or.

Even if we can't get it to work in Anim8or, we could load the script files into it so we can see how the mouth would move, then we could do the lipsync better. Anyways, tell me what you all think.

I don't know what happened, I made this post yesterday, but it erased everything but a quote I had, so I finally got around to retyping it

Not that I know of. I have noticed (from every project I have done) that when the project starts to spread to chat rooms, and MSNM, and several forums, the project will eventually die. People can't find out what to do easily, and sooner or later the project dies.

So I hope we stay on the few forums that we have.

Hmm, that supertexture looks like a samll texture tiled over a large one to me.

Ok, M, it looks like you're the editor! I use ZS4 to edit since it's better quality and more options (like codecs and resolution and framerate) but it's a terror to learn and hard to just put to pieces of video together. Can you export from avi or mpg with WMM?
Broadband is plenty fast. By the way, you'd be surprised at how much people do understand. And if they don't they can always ask.

Ok, Mr. Smeagol, your concept art- In the past, at least in the colonial days, it was shameful for a woman to expose even her ankle, let alone that much leg. I'm pretty sure it was the same in the Middle Ages. I think most dresses had a tight bodice and a long skirt, I'll have to go look at some costume sites to reassure myself. I don't like the red hair either, I cna't make up my mind about the other colors. I'll put up my interpretation of PP soon.

What about naming the movie something generic like The Ugly Maiden Cosmetics?

Hey, sorry for the double posting and weird things you may have noticed with my posts, the forum (or my computer) is messed up for me. It's doing the oddest things to my posts... or it could just be me getting used to thid forum

Well... they didn't have robots and rocket engines and gameboys either.... so I din't actually go for middle age look, couse I didn't think that's important... I just thought - why not make her light and cool, I thought when we have only one jung female character (or at least I can't think of any right now) why not make her attractive/pretty... well It's true that she would look nice and attractive in that first sample picture you provided , I guess I'd also go with something like that.... the thing is - It's impossible to anim8 it, and much much easyer if she had chlothes like I drew...
- Dont get this the wrong way like I'm telling you it must be what I draw - that's just an idea after all...
again... I hate that hat... lol

Although you can't export as an .avi/.mpg I can convert it to most formats (eg: avi/mpg) preserving most of the quality or lowering the quality for dial-up users when the movie is open for download. I forgot to mention I do use other editing software (including ZS4, Axogon Composer and WAX 2.0). Sorry for thinking you didn't know much about WMM! I thought you where just interested in Anim8or. Sorry! Hopefully when the movie gets towards it's finall stages I can put together a trailor and make poster and banners for it? Since the movie is still in the pre-production phase I won't be needed for at least a year i'd imagine. But i'll keep in contact just in case there is something for me to do (I can do quite a bit to help whatever it may be)! Thanks to all for letting me join this great project!

PS: You may have heard of Blender (the free 3D modelling/animation software). There is a new project called the Orange Project who are making a short called An Elephants Dream. I'm sure many of you have heard of it but I thought it looked very good! http://orange.blender.org/

Yes, I agree theater should have a say in it. I guess the futuristic element does make my position hard to hold... especially since I made the Dark Riders rappers... But I do like the costume I drew better.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sunflash, but I don't like it either. Keep trying.

Codfish, your human does need work- in fact it looks like you spent as much effort prettying up the screenshot as building the human. Also remember, until we get cloth-sim, it's best to model the clothes almost as part of the body. So pick which character you're trying to do early.

Mimo, Movie Maker comes on XP machines and I've needed to use it before- I personally don't like the WMV format. In my opinion it's better to keep your source files in high quality until you know what media you're going for, be it download or DVD. How good are you with ZS4 and those others?

I had heard that they had finished Orange. I thought they'd screened it already.

Dragon's looking good MP3D! Only that bulge for his stomach should continue right into his tail, I think. It ruins the lines.

Hey, P_R7 I can do the voice sample, but on ther models I can only do simple stuff, like spears and easy things like that. I can make a spear if that will help any with the movie, if you need a minor model made, I might be able to make it.

You know, I was thinking about it. You know when you watch a DVD, there's that whole menu system thing. Well, I'm better at programming then modeling. So if you want, when the movies finished, if there's some talented graphic artists, we could make a PC movie viewer. Basicly it would be exactly like a DVD, but for a PC. The only thing that would be a requirment that I could see is that the movie format will need to be .AVI.

This probably isn't the time to bring this up. But it's just an Idea to chew on:-)


Another thing, when coming up with a name for movies, it's good to evaluate several things first:

1) Main Character(s)
2) Main Goal of the main Characters
3) Main Location

With this information, you could make many different names. However, for this movie, there really isn't a main character. Thats the hardest part. if that list above was filled out accordingly:

1) Prince Charlie
2) To Rescue Ugly Maiden
3) Ugly Maiden Cosmetics Castle

Then the following names might be orppropriete:

1) Prince Charlie and the search for the Ugly Maiden
2) Prince Charlie and the Ugly Maiden Cosmetics Company
3) Prince Charlie's Adventures

NOTE: These ideas are examples and not meant for actual use.
