Thanks for the offer Startrekfan. I'm sure it would come in very useful. It would also be a good idea to place a link in the AnimatorMovieZone links page (if that's alright with you?)

Thx for comments on my tower

2: mr.Smeagol, how long have you been working with Anim8or? On the looks i'd say you've been working your whole life making 3d models!!! This is just AMAZING on what kind of models you make! No doubt that you are one of the best modellers on this forum!

lol ! That's the best critic I ever got... But I think you'r exaggerating, I have been modeling for.... a year maybe, maybe little more? But don't worry guys, you can also be good as me. All you need is practise, ( When I was newb and was looking at all the models made in anim8or by pro's... at first I thougt I'll NEVER be able to do something like that... Now I can get close to that,(offcourse I'm not pro - I'm even not-junior-member-yet).

But Startrekfan and codfish: You didn't optimize your models of castle and fireplace!
And they have bugs...
So I made this tutorial especialy for you on how to optimize your models: http://vele-bit.hr/mario/an8-tutorial/ (took me 5 hours to make it)
Here are the 2 links needed for tutorial: http://vele-bit.hr/mario/an8-tutorial/door_notfixed.an8
http://vele-bit.hr/mario/an8-tutorial/door_fixed.an8
(check out the tutorial - you can't actually do the tutorial without the first link.)
Startrekfan - this is your model I used as example in this tutorial, so I must ask you your permission to post these two links IN the tutorial.
The tutorial combines all the stuff I noticed was your most common moddeling mistakes.
- - - Just trying to help you help the project

I know i'm getting slow on much things. I've been taking more than i can eat....... So to make time left for my school, i am slowing down..... as said before. The website was of later concern, i tought we agreed about that. But be my guest and make one ;-) Also, my contribution is now going to be limited to:
Part-time modeling on the castle
Taking the e-mails with the avis to host them
Help with website if requested for special things.

I'm sorry to slow things so suddenly, i know i'm getting you guys more work. I hope you can forgive me Anyhow, i will try and do my best on improving the castle. I hope to have a better version tomorow.

edit: mr.Smeagol, i was *NOT* exaggerating. That you have been modeling for only a year makes it only MORE perfect that you achieved this, and really, i'd call you pro

MP3D - I'm not doing woof, yet. I was thinking maybe of doing it later if nobody else does it.
You model the woof then ( I had in mind for him the anatomy like puss from shrek - so that he can ride horse, I'll try to do some concept art - but I rarely do it right - so don't stand here waiting for my skeches - but fell free to start modeling ), I'm working on the tower and when that's finished - on the forest.
Will we use transmaps for woof's fur?

Anyways - I made some further progress on the tower - I think you'll like it. I'll post screenshots maybe in few hours (like b4).

Startrekfan... thaks for that compliment very much - I apriciate it, I'm just doing my very best 4 this project! Maybe I'll be able to be your companion, help you with your castle... but ltr when i finish the tower.

Have you checked out the tutorial I made for you guys?

Hey guys, I've been off for a while because of the virus scare. Didn't get it, though!

Morprok, feel free to join, we could always use a photoshopper for textures and things. Can you draw a more traditional-realistic style dragon burning a village, on parchment, illuminated color, for the scene right before they go into the cave?

MP3D, the dragon concept is on Stfans site. Maybe in my album as well, I forget.

Nice chains.

Keep up the good work, all, do whatever you can the best you can and do a lot of it. Anim8ordude- that may be true in a different movie, but with only about eight modelers, you're sure to get some of your work in the movie.

No mechanical horses!!

Anim8ordude, this forum does only support links to an AVI, or display still images, unless you use animated gifs. convert the avi to animated gif and post it as regular image. i did that and it works very well.

P_R7 the concept was in your forlder... this is going to be easy to model...

Mr.Smeagol..I love the detail you are putting into your wrok...but we need to think about poly count as well..There might be some people here who might be useing an old or lower end PC..And they might not be able to handel the load if they are called apon to work on the scene or model..also think about render times every poly needs to be calculated so the more there are the more time it will take....Please dont get me wrong...The detail is awesome but we need a limit...cool...I know those chain links are a little on the hight side....I dont have a problem with poly count. My PC is a work horse...Xpress pci video card 16x.(which I need help with knowing which one to buy and not for gameing but for 3D graphics and not one that will just get me by...one that will handel just about anything I throw at it.).and a 3700+ AMD athlon processor..1 gig of ram(can hold 4 gig)280 gigs of hard drive space....and alot more but hey this isnt about my specs its about makeing sure we can all work on all parts of the movie...cool......

I will start on the dragon and woof shortly..

Morprok I recieved your e-mail thanks for it realy helps knowing who is doing what....hopefully you can get the website up and have a section just for progress reports...and who is doing what and keep it up dated....that would be a good job for someone....kinda a shop forman....that person could keep in touch with every one thru e-mail asking what there progress is on the part they are working on and update the site so we know where we stand...Morprok do you want to do this????

ok got to go...

Hey MP3D - about the high-poly-slow-render you said... I'm making all models for this movie with the ultimate most intensive care about the balance between the polycount and details. I became an expert in that. Trust me - the poly count on that details is the lower as it can get without it looking ugly when rendered. Look - I even made TUTORIAL for all the members on this forum and especially - on this project, on how to keep your poly count at optimized ! but i still got no feedback on it !!!

Only thing I'm worying about is how long will it take to render one frame when we turn on all the shadow cast/recive that are necesary for more realistic render...
Hey... btw: How do you suggest I do the lighting setup? It's supposed to be night... and I'll make the most light coming from torches around the interrior walls (I made some cocept torches already). But how do you think I should do the lighting setup of infinite lights? (moonlight! - there is also moonlight in the script...)
( we don't want the room to get too dark, couse then all the details would go "down the toilet"..., but we got to make it night - I suggest torches - what do you suggest?)

Any suggestions on furniture? , I was thinking the wooden trapdor in the ceiling with wooden ladders going from floor to it, would make a nice detail...

Ok, P_R7, I can't really do much drawing myself so it'll be very hard for me to get anything near what you want but if someone finishes the dragon soon and post a screeny of it or whatever it'll make it a lot easier just to use a render than drawing it by hand. And a bit of a reference of what style you mean would be very helpful.

MP3D- Sure I'll do that but I'm waiting on Benzjie's layout plan for the site but once we get that all worked out I'll start right away!

Hi monkeyboy! and welcome
- You asked us to give you a model to do, but we don't know what model's are you best at. (for example - I'm much beter at anorganic that on organic). And we don't know your skills yet, so do what I did - read the script and pick any model you would like to do that you can find in script - you can also suggest new models that you think would suit best for the certain scene - but are not yet in the script
Just ask here can you model the model(s) you picked - just to check they aren't already taken.
I'm doing "dark tower" and I'm in charge of woods. I already made chess and tree.
MP3D took dragon and woof.
Startrekfan is making the castle.
Codfish made the fireplace.
Pr_7 made script, lots of concept art, modeled chess-table, Dragon sign & wall hanging.

And monkeyboy - there is a poll i made at group site, on which tower we shoud use - so...don't forget to vote...

Hey, saruman, you probabyl dodn't get that he told leslie because it was the forum member leslie who made terranim8or - cool program as addition to anim8or which can make fractal landscapes, particles, real time trans mapping, fire, snow, rain, ... etc,etc...
But I think it would be better if the name was Steve because he made anim8or ( hey benzjie - dont tell me you mixed up steve with leslie... That would be hell of an insult... lol :P)

But hey - we DO NOT have any magicians. Afaik we dont have magic in our movie.

Not too many torches, we want to keep their faces, at least, in shadow. Mostly moonlight with some diffuse faked with area lights, I think. and a torch or two, maybe you should add the fireplace, with some texture changes? Or should we try to keep the tower look dark and cold?

As for furniture, a rough table, chairs, whatever tacky stuff that goes in an office that we can medieval-ize. How many polys ARE in your scene?

Morprok-If you don't feel you can draw the dragon, just say so. I meant like a fantasy dragon, completely different from my cartoon style dragon, the joke is... well, on reflection, the joke isn't that great. That's a correction I need to add to the script. Anyway, fantasy style dragon.

We could do the secret message thing on the textures. You know, "you have found the secret message-" except we just see how may times we can hide the word Glanville on the texture without someone finding it unless they're looking. I suppose we could rename the land of Glum Glanville- of course, "ville" means village- and we don't want it to be TOO obvious that we're buttering Steve up- like we want frames in the gallery or anything- heh heh heh.

Educate me. What be afaik?

Welcome, Monkeyboy!

Mp3D- Be nice to my dragon- aah, I know you will, just joking. I didn't erase the circles I drew him with so that you can use them as proportion guuides- have fun!

EDIT: QUICK! IS SYSIPH RECRUITED!? WE NEED THAT HORSE IN THE WIP!!!!!

P_R7 - I can do my best on the dragon if you want me to, all I need is a few quick references that Google should be able to provide and then some time to draw it. I'm much better at non-organic figures but if you need it I can try. Also do you want it colored or just pencil? and how much detail do you need (like would it be something I could draw on my tablet or the detail of a hand-drawn picture)?

the only knights I could find in the script are actually robots :
quote:
(The party is approaching the entrance to the castle. The drawbridge is down, there are two knights in full armor guarding it. Our heroes ride up and start to cross the drawbridge when suddenly the guards visors light up from the inside and the guards quickly look at the heroes. The guards are really robots in armor.)

Soo... feel free to work on knight And it should look like... eee...let's say -
a robot inside knigt armor - actualy only the visors are not knight, everything else is like knights. Ask PR_7 what he had in mind for robot-knights for greater details.

PR_7 - afaik is: "As Far As I Know" check this out for internet shortcuts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_slang I found it extremly usefull!

I intendet to make something like 12 to 15 instances of torches in the scene - low poly torches offcourse - everyone with a litle transmap glow instead of fire (you'll see - saruman is making torch i sketched with pencil - you can see it in my photos at the group site, I'll be helphing him a little, I'm his mentor ) and every thorch would have a little light ( not infinite, not spootlight but the third one (I cant remember what it's called - I'm in school right now).

I agree with Glanvile idea

Morprok: Hand drawn, high detail, illumnated. Like you would see in a medieval book.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminated_manuscript

Just a suit of armor with red light inside the visor.

I think it's area or omni. Which Glanville idea? Naming the country Glanville? Thanks for the link.

I take it Sysiph isn't recruited. I'll ask him about the horse.

P_R7 - Ya I'm sorry but I can't do the dragon. I tried a few test sketches and I can't get it right and I'm having a little trouble picturing what a medieval-looking dragon would look like.

Edit: I just got an idea! I think I remember seeing a dragon with the style you want in the very beginning of Shrek 1 (When he's in the out-house reading the fairy tale book). I'll check up on that and then try again.

Yeah I can understand your concept art (one of the problems with myself being an ex-desighner for a building firm) and it is very impressive and will definitly work in my eyes (and mind if i can find it) and my anim8or program when I can get it up and running again Grrrr!

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody I tend to actually finish what i say im gonna do this time around. Sorry about the last time "_". What do you guys want me to work on. I am ok at human models now, but im new to interiors. I might be able to do outdoor environments. I am also not actually that bad at the actual animating. Just tell me what you want me to work on. You guys know more about whats going than me.
