That looks nice.  The original idea is fun.
I think to improve it, first you could make the background black, but use a white object as a wall.  Then you'd get some blacker reflections as well on the metal, giving more realistic reflections.  The glass could do with a dielectric material.  Preferably a green or greenish blue hue.  It looks great so far though, I just feel it's way too white.

Nice work floyd86 I had seen the original before (I think I seen it as a link on the old Anim8or.org site). Great gag of a light bulb pluggin itself in. The comparison is amazing in respect to the fact that Anim8or is what it is and it can only progress as the one man (Steven R. Glanville) can make in his spare time. Well done. Nothing really to critique (as Anim8or currently has several limitations). Great choice of tribute to another animator and well modeled. I also like in your render that the "lightbulb" is reflected in the casing of the socket.

My first aim was to recreate the original, so I tried not to change to much of it in color or model. I do agree it a bit to white, but its all anim8or (and me) is capable of on the moment I think. With a really good renderer (no offense steve) like mental ray or something things might come out nicer and more realistic.
I tried a dielectric material on the lightbulb, but didn't gave the right effect: it became to dark. For the dark reflections I used a HDRI map (which you can see back in the lightbulbs reflections) instead of a black background which doesnt give any (nice) reflections in ART yet.
