Thank you all for your comments, I'm working on the controller to make it easier to do and also smoother as effect, as soon as I get the proper math I'll post the script here.

Well why don't you post your work anyway thecolclough?
It would be nice if you succeed in doing this effect with a controller, once you have worked out the math other users can take advantage of it - me, for example :P, keying it manually is not handy, and the result isn't good enough.

i never got round to actually trying it, it was just an idea on my to-do list.  but you never know, i might still give it a spin sometime :)

and if i do, i'll hopefully put it up here for you all to see.
