Discovery 1
Chopper Al:
Hey folks.
I used to use Anim8or few years back, and decided to try and give it a go again.
Decided to get my feet wet by modelling the Discovery 1 from 2001 - A Space Odyssey. I had modelled it in C4D a while back, so have all the reference material for it. It is also a fairly complex model which should get me back up to speed with Anim8or.
Started on the Command Module. Have some of the raised panels done, basic pod bay openings modelled (miss having booleans). Lot's more to come...
C&C always welcome...

You should try the "shell" tool. It's really useful for projects like this.

2001: One of the greatest movies ever!
Nice start you have there, chopper al. Is it actual modeling, or a texture? It looks like modeling but it's not that clear. It could be the lack of shadows. Maybe you can make the incarving a bit deeper.
I like to see how this project will work out. Are you planning on animating it? or a still image?
Chopper Al:
Thanks xalener. Will have to look in the docs and see what the shell tool is.
Thanks floyd86. Everything is actual modelling right now. The raised panels on the movie Discovery were not all that deep. Some panels were done with layers of foil. The details really came out in the painting of the model.
Below is the command module of the C4D Discovery. I hope the Anim8or version will come out even better.
Thanks...
Al

Boolean subtraction is a very messy modeling method.
I'm sure over time, anim8or's capability to do this kind of stuff will increase. I've always found it cool that this program could probably run .95 on an I-pod Touch. (Which would be an idea for marketing, expanding the community, and possibly expanding software support in other programs).
Anyway, very nice start. The shell and inset tool might be pretty useful.
From what I can see, you could do this without a texture.
