Discovery 1

Chopper Al:
Hmmm...  I always found Booleans to be an effective and clean way of modelling complex shapes within shapes, but that's just me.

Anway, here is an update.

Worked some more on the pod bay doors.  Not real happy with the renders though.  A lot of the details seem to be lost in the renders.  I've tried adjusting the light type, position, color, shadow types, etc., but is still lacking.

The Discovery is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi ships! This is coming along really nicely! I hope we can see more soon, since you've had a few days of "forum downtime." :D

I forgot to put the :P after the booleans comment, anyway, I would think a bumpmap would help.

Or you could deepen the crevices a bit, and try adjusting the ambient brightness.

It quickly becoming more detailed though :P.

Chopper Al:
I've played around some more, and found another limitation of modelling in Anim8or that is going to stop me from going further on my Discovery.  I found that I am limited to 32 when lathing an object.  I need at least 64 (or more) to do the back of the command module.  Sub-dividing it just won't work properly.  I think I am going to go back to A:M or C4D.

Steve had done an amazing job in creating Anim8or, and it was a great program to learn on.  And for being free, the feature set is pheonomenal.  I guess I've been spoiled a bit with the other packages.

No offense will be taken if the moderators or administrators wish to delete my account or this topic.

Thanks...
Al

Indian8or:
Hey chopper AI do you always give up so easily.  The model you are working on is quite within what anim8or can do.  No doubt you will face many difficulties while working with any 3d package and your real skill lies in finding your own workarounds to deal with any limitation, small or big.

You will be amazed to know how "Huge" projects the folks (including myself)  on this forum are working on using anim8or.

Any way, we respect your decision.  Best luck.  We enjoyed your company and will be happy to have you around.
