You're doing very well so far!  There are definitely some things that need to be fixed though.  Right now  he looks like he's starving.  You really need to flesh out the cheeks and widen the jaw (use your reference), the side of the head needs to be wider.  Secondly, the ears are too complicated and a bit distorted right now.  I'd go for fuller more comical and simple ears such as the ones shown in your reference image.

I have no real experience making ears, but I'm learning. I am starting to try and flesh out the cheeks and jaw now. Cross your fingers.

Dreadkb:
Modeled, rigged, morphed, and rendered. Just deciding if I want sound or not.

hihosilver:
I think sound would be a great challenge.  Perhaps lip syncing?
