Where I've been and where I am heading

Ok this first pic is one I made in Blender over a year ago and imported it to Anim8or.  This is the leading lady Farah from Prince of Persia Sands of Time.  I like strong female characters in video games.  After I imported my model I set up 3 lamps 2 area and one spot.  The shadow is a raycast and that causes the render time to creep.

This next render took less time. Mainly because the shadow is a fake. I placed my dark fairy on her shoulder to illustrate that the shadow is artificial.  I duplicated her mesh and using the scale I flattened her out.  I used the warp tool (which is kind of like using lattice in Blender) to skew her.  Gave her a dark gray texture and instant shadow.

This is more importing from my Blender models.  This male head only lacks hair, if this was the Blender it has a particle feature just for that.  So I am probably going to work with banana peels and alpha hair in the Anim8or.  :D

Now to my first WIP which I will keep you up to date on in this thread.  I want to create this from scratch in the Anim8or.

Some of you might recognize her as "Kerrigan" from Star Craft.  Overall I am really into fairies, angels, and demons.  She kind of looks along the lines of all three.  So now you know where I have been and where I am going.

3D Joe Wiltshire:
Nice models! You've done some great work in blender! Very realistic human models.

Dosser:
Wow, Infected Kerrigan looks disturbingly 'nice' and a little bit sexy.

I'd say too nice. It's interesting how she looks like a fairy, but she also looks a little weak to me.

Others are all amazing of course.

I'm curious - why are you learning anim8or after Blender? Mainly because I'm going the other way - started anim8or, loved it, and am now trying Blender. I would've thought once you'd mastered all those hidden menus and tiny buttons and right-click selecting you'd thnk it's too much effort to learn anything else :P

dkobol:
very nice models. i like farah, if she had more polys, she would look like screenshot from game.

@ 3D Joe: Thanks, I tend to think the textures help more than anything. Farrah's texture came from the game (a friend pulled it for me). The male heads textures were found online long ago at a 3DS forum.

@ Dosser: My kid brother played the game and I thought she looked good in the movie cuts. While I was looking online this fan made drawing came up and I liked the pose and I can see making both light and dark fairies from this drawing.

I just found Anim8or, didn't know it existed.  I am looking for work, I got bored and decided to work on my 3D models.  Money being tight as it is no college (no computer access) so I have been banished to the parents dungeon.  :'(  I swear they must have had a wino living in here or perhaps they rented it out to a circus freak.   But the good news is internet access and their old PC... I think it's a PC.  :-\  Which is one BIG reason I am not using Blender right now their graphics card is so old Blender won't or can't use it.  I am lucky I found Anim8or.  ;)

@ dkobol: It took some time to render the raycast shadow. So I used an old trick I saw and made the fake shadow it render very quickly. I suppose it couldn't hurt to subdivide the mesh to make her smooth out more. But I was thinking of remaking the hands again with fingers instead of mits.

BTW

This is too common a misconception of Blender.  The GUI is able to be changed at the start.  You have the option to change the mouse controls, colors, layout and even make the buttons a big as you want. If you check my postings that was my first question about Anim8or.  Could you change the GUI?  The answer was a flat no.  I would be a rich girl for every Blender noob who said the buttons were too small.  ;D
