hello again, long time no post. my bad. :P i haven't been ignoring you all on purpose, i've just been tied up a lot with other work lately.
anyways, i'm now starting work on my dissertation project for by BSc Media course, which is a mockumentary about a couple of students trying to make a sci-fi action-adventure feature film, with psychotic alien hamsters trying to take over the Earth. although it's primarily a live-action project, there will be a few CGI elements, including big scary hamster battle spaceships, and the interior of the Hamster Parliament, all done in guess which program ;D
i'll try and post WIPs of the project's progress on here over the next few months. for starters, here's the title graphic (i might do a new version with stars in the background later), and the very much unfinished battleship - please forgive the ghastly psychedelic colour scheme, it's only a temporary thing i'm using while i build the models, to help me keep track of which bits are which. details such as gun turrets are still to come (plus proper textures, of course).

ENSONIQ5:
Great work so far colclough, and I love the concept! Are those giant hamster wheels on the back (or front?) of the ships? Good to have you back mate.
3D Joe Wiltshire:
Nice work, good to see you back at last!!
The first picture reminds me of a mix of Hitchhikers guide and Star Trek :P
Are those guns in the 2nd picture?

i've done a little bit more on the ship since last post, but not enough to bother with another render yet. i'll hopefully do more and give you another preview soon.

they're actually supposed to be rotating engine nacelles, but the design was inspired by a hamster ball. one of the next major modelling priorities is to add all the engine support equipment around the nacelle. and you're right, that end is the back.
on a vaguely related note, the pointy bit sticking down at the front was inspired by a hamster's upper-front teeth, and that's where the primary gun turrets will go - once the guns have been added, you could argue that it's the part the ships will 'bite' with... if you'll excuse the atrocious pun :P

the hitchhikeriness was deliberate - one of the characters in the mockumentary describes the movie as 'Hitchhiker's Guide meets War of the Worlds' - and the font i used for the word 'INTERGALACTIC' is called Final Frontier, and is a clone of the Star Trek title font. which might explain why the picture reminded you of Star Trek ;)
