$imon:
I love planet earth too! Great inspiration there..

Attached a pic of the globe in the series.. As you can see the clouds are not visible in the unlit part of the globe, it is completely black. That is what I meant earlier. You can achieve that by setting the Ambient of the material to 0.
You can maybe then put a texture with only the city-lights in the emissive texture slot (make sure to set emissive to 1 in the material dialog if you do that)

Planets really are fun to make and have a cool result fairly easy.. an animation is always great.

Oh, I get what you mean now, yeah I was having some touble tweaking out the clouds, you see, when I set it 0 ambeint the clouds would turn pure black, if it was at 0.5 it would be a solid grey.
But I think If I cast a shadow on it's self in raytracer it might fix this issue.

rellik420:
i havent spent much time in scene mode. and i know almost nothing about lighting but would it work if u use a black light on one side of the sphere?

Bobert:
Hey Cooldude. Nice Earth. I was wondering though, is the glow effect something you achieved in anim8or through some ingenuity or was it done in post production?

cooldude234:
Both pictures are completely rendered in anim8or, the only programs I used was Fireworks for making and editing textures and of course, anim8or. In other words no other program was used after anim8or.
