[ COMPLETE ] Challenge #28: Greek!?!
headwax:
Hey Cori, very nice work, love that modelling, the wings look fine.
Suggestions? Maybe a render with a longer focal length camera because at the moment that front hoof is looking slightly large, courtesy of the wide angle?
aand maybe down the bottom a suggestions of distant mountaintops, very distant, would give depth to the render.
Other thing could be a transmap on the tail to make it a bit softer on the ends?
It's a wonderful model. You've really done a good job. Congrats!
CoriDavis:
Yeah, the hoof is big because I used my Clydesdale model. It's my favorite and slightly better skinned than the regular model. I do have a transmap on the tail, but I guess it could be moved to a better position. Mountains sound good though, hope I can do it. I'm not the best at nature stuff, I can't even make a decent rock!
Edit: Here are my edits. How does it look? Anything Else? Hope asking for tips isn't hindering my chances of winning, although I don't really expect to win anyway
Edit 2: Fixed the wings and made them less transparent and more realistic, Added a second light to bring out the bumpmaps, added more clouds and changed the transmap to a more realistic one

Coridavis: I like the scene youve made there, but it could use some refining. there are some sharp corners on the horse (maybe try subdividing?) and a horse texture might help break up the overbright areas on the fur.
It's a shame though that you couldn't use a new model for the challenge as Raxx suggested for the challenge..
Oh a suggestion for the cropping of your image: maybe you can have the model more on the right side of the image instead of centered, that way it will look more like it's flying to the left instead of hanging still in mid air..
Here is a WIP on my progress of Zeus. I hope I'll finish this project - maybe too ambitious?
Bull model is finished, I made the base mesh in Anim8or, defined the shape in sculptris and retopologized it in 3d studio max.. Now I am thinking of posing it in Anim8or, I'll see how it goes otherwise I might have to do it in max (i never really pose anything.. tut tut tut simon, but.. i just never make organic models!)
Anyways :P next up - rigging & unwrapping (the most fun parts of course!)
(I'll see if I can make Europa herself - thats a whole new challenge right there, so I might just leave it with Zeus!)
$imon:
Coridavis - here is what I meant with the cropping:
edit; Oh, while I'm posting I'm thinking of another aspect that you might want to improve - the lighting on the horse seems quite different from those on the clouds, you can maybe try to mimick the lighting on the clouds for the model to make the scene look more uniform..
Raxx:
Coridavis, Don't worry about asking for tips ;) As for your work, I think I agree with Simon about the use of space, and it'll also give you the opportunity to fill that space with more artwork. I could imagine a Greek temple maybe peeking above a cloud in the lower left, or something that'll add to the...Greekiness in general :P I don't think you've gone very in depth with lighting and detail work yet, so this could be a good challenge for you.
$imon, excellent bull so far, I hope you manage to add some more detail to its head and neck before you begin the rest. While no doubt you can add a lot of detail via texturing, there are still plenty of new details that can be modeled to give it more defining character that may not come across otherwise. And good luck with Europa, I don't know if I've ever seen you model a person yet ;)
Haven't started mine yet though in my head I know exactly the scene I want to do. Hoping I can show some results this weekend!
