Diamond Trial

G3:
It is first time me using Art raytrace renderer..

I think it is still possible making out some germstone in anim8or

still shadow isn't including the lightrays  which should be beside the shades under diamond( guess it should be done manually)

G3:
Several progresses that i made

Raxx:
Looks nice! And yeah properties of light through solids hasn't been implemented yet in ART.

dwsel:
I like the result on the second image! A bit of reflective environment really makes wonders here.

The first one is definitely missing more things to be reflected around it, dispersion and caustics. You can easily fake dispersion by rendering 3 versions - each with different IOR and composite RGB channels just like here http://www.mentis.ca/design/graphics/dispersion/ For caustics you can place light behind the object, close to the floor.

I really don't know what I was thinking about when writing this. Fakeing refractive caustics behind your diamond gem is really bad idea, because when light goes through pavilion instead of crown that only means obviously bad design 8) Caustics behind fit objects like lenses and spheres...

Here's my try at rendering gems. Design modelled roughly after reference: http://www.faceters.com/designs/ad6/check11.shtml - quite simple and quick cut that I even wanted to make if I only had gear to perform it.
