"An8-Chan" side project
fromsoysauce:
I actually really like the Chinese flag. Using red and yellow feathers is a good idea! It's going to be a challenge, but I really hope that I can wind up with a design that anyone on this forum can take one look at and recognize as being an interpretation of Steve's Robin.
I was actually playing with the idea of unusual skin color to get more of that effect. I find that giving her yellow skin (though not as solid bright yellow as in the icon) and red hair does a lot to home in on the robin identity. (yellow skin and red hair, as in similar to SunsetShimmer in that regard).
I was playing with the concept of yellow tail feathers (since that's a part of the robin Icon) and I found myself extrapolating that to a pattern of feathers which basically formed a cute skirt. --- From there curiosity drove me to see how it would look if I went with that feathery structure till it wholly resembled a light dress. I think that's what I'll go with rather than having her actually dress up.
That plus 3 clawed hands, as well as 3 clawed digigrade legs comes together with making her look like a little red siren.
I am not sure if she should have wings or not, and if so, if they should be part of her arms, or extra limbs, and if they are limbs if they should extend from her upper or lower back.
fromsoysauce:
I now have enough of her modeled out that I can take a coherent WIP screen.
She's got the same red and yellow coloring as Steve's Robin, but for the sake of balance, the pale blue that anim8or uses for the back-drop fills in as a third color.
I wanted to play around with the idea of feathers, since I don't have any feathery characters in my games. So her hair was designed to look as if it is feathers as well as the red on her body forming what appears to be a dress of feathers. Finally she has 3 feathered winglets for ears, which of course are analogous to Steve's Robin's winglets. 3 Turned out to be a bit of a fractal for her too, since she also has 3 digits on each appendage.
Do keep in mind that this is just a WIP, and that the final one will have proper detail where it deserves to be to amount to much better form (not to mention actual texture maps)

that's what you'd call a really good start, fss :)
Steve:
Nice!

Glad you like it, Steve.
I must confess, I don't think that I myself had actually ran through the Robin Tutorial myself when I started anim8or, so technically this is my first attempt at rendering the character.
It would be pretty unfortunate to make an interpretation of someone else's character, that the original creator didn't like- I've been down that road before, not fun-
This however, I'm confident, will wind up being quite adorable in the end!
--Edit---
Added detail to the forms of the accessories!
