 Good question Maybe best info for now is in the IK discussion in ongoing developement forum?
 will do a search and post a link to most relevant.
 An IK tutorial would be very handy.

I had a look for a tutorial but I couldn't see one.  A while back I played with IK for animating a bendy tube and I found it quite easy to use. I was looking for a tutorial to use as a quick answer. It would be useful if you find something.
