Title: Help!
Post by: JB on October 07, 2008, 02:59:36 pm
I am having a problem with Anim8tor that makes it unusable. I put 3D .OBJ files  in and then  load textures, if anyone was wondering. What happens is when I open it, It is just a blank black screen. It doesn't even tshow the little opening picture. I tried redownloading v0.97 seeing that it was newer than mine, but still no luck. Anyone know if it is a settings issue or a bad file? I tried Blender but it is too confusing. I can't make any progress now  :(

Are you using a laptop or a pc without a graphics card and what OS are you running?

As a beginner to anim8or maybe it's better to start with version 0.95c, which is stamble. The new 0.97 version is a beta/preview. It might have a few bugs. Does this same error occur with version 0.95, then it's probably you computer to blame.

I've been using it for months, IDk if that is still beginner. Anyways 0.95 had the same problem, I can re-download it and check

Oop! Nevermind I am using 0.95 atm

.95 should be stable, maybe faulty obj file

if you succeed in loading up an obj file with anim8or, when you go to save, use 'save as'

not 'save'

(unless you imported the obj file .....)

if you "save", then next time you try to load it it ill appear blank

I never save, it just previews it in 3D for me. And the screen never comes up. Just black

If you go to open Anim8or and you get a white screen, you need to re-boot you pc / laptop then try again and make sure Anim8or is the first program you open and no other app is running until open. Vista is a RAM greedy OS so this will only increase the chance of Anim8or opening. You don't need one but, I would recommend a graphics card.

Hope this helps

JB,
This may be just an issue with vista and your specific computer (graphics card type, opengl settings and so on), however, there is one other item to mention.
when importing .obj files, sometimes their visual size is either really large, really small, or has a whole bunch of points and faces.
Try the following.
Click the "eye" in object mode, then click the bottom left button on the tool bar which looks like a little 3d box (or just hold the shift button and the f key).. This should resize your field of view.

If your object shows up now, you then know it was just the object size
