Hi,
Some of you might remember my previous project: self illumination. This was a remake of a famous 3d art work of Andre Kutscherauer (this one (http://www.3dvalley.com/gallery/v/Andre-Kutscherauer/Selfillumination_1280_1024.jpg.html)).
My remake looked pretty, but i wasn't satisfied enough. The lighting wasn't perfect: too light. Same goes for the reflections, they just didn't looked fine to my.
Now i make a second render, again using only anim8or v0.97d with the great ART renderer. And i must say, it came out really nice.
This render toke an amazing 52 hours!! (please steve speed up ART! ;D)too render --> with AA set to 64.
Attached are both renders: first one 1.0, second one 2.0 with improved lighting/reflections.
Tell me what you thing: improved or ruined?

Neither really floyd.
Two images, two different styles and both of equal, high quality. To me it's now merely a matter of preference/taste of one style over another and not which image is the better one.
-
I agree. To me, each image has a different ambience. Both are stunningly neat.
The first one, because of its brightness, has a unique subtleness to it. In the second, the elements are more physical.
-
I prefer the second, the better reflections, more realistic reflections and bumps, the lighting, and the slight blue light in the bulb.
-
oke, i think I have found a good mix between the first and the second one.
I used a clay render to make the second one lighter:
-
Looks great floyd
Being a light finatic, I think it could be better.
Try mixing local and infinate lighting, rather than spotlights.

It actually has several different lights not only spots. I used one infinate light, one local and four spotlights to create this light setup.
-
I would also advise steering clear of so many spotlights, mostly just because I don't like the way they're drawn in Anim8or, but I think they'd give you a more realistic and better effect.

They where only used the light up the background, only one of them is aimed at the scene. But your right, i now most of the time use light setups with only locals and infinates. Spots don't give that of a nice effect.
