Origins of Science
Ok here’s a quick note that may help you with ideas. I wrote this song when I was on a train and I was really into my music at that time, I always trying to think of a new song. Anyway, I kind of wrote this song to say… ‘hey! Do you ever really question life? Or do you just take it for granted?’
Anyway, I wanted to use this really cool line too that I’d read in a book somewhere. ‘You can’t teach a spider how to spin it’s a web’ basically meaning that some intelligence or skills we are born with and some are drilled into us. The original book was going on about how spiders instinctively know how to spin webs.
Anyway I’m ranting, make of that what you will. Here’s the lyrics.
Verse1:
How do I spend my time from here to there?
Travelling on trains with nothing to do but stare.
Looking through windows for inspiration,
Pass open fields, cities and stations.
The clouds are immense, they make me feel small.
On this Edinburgh train I’m no one at all.
V2:
Bridges are memories of one mans creation,
How he solved the puzzles by observation.
Now we pass under without any thought,
For the man who has made them is no one at all.
Chorus:
And you might wonder where we’re gonna go from here
Are we gonna meet our destination on time?
And you’ve passed under all these bridges on your way,
Never even questioning the origins of science.
V3:
How do I know that I’m really here?
Is it something you teach me, teach me to fear?
You can’t teach a spider how to spin its web
And the things that you taught me just messed up my head
I’ve just been waiting, waiting too long
For the answers to questions that won’t come along.
Chorus2:
And you might wonder what is going on in my mind.
Did I even listen to the words that you said?
And you’ve passed under all these bridges that I’ve built
Never even questioning the origins of science.
Bridge:
And how will you know if it’s alright?
And how will you ever be satisfied?
Chorus3:
Cos you have wandered many years on this earth
now its nearly time for your journey to end
And you’ve passed under many bridges on your way
Never even questioning the origins of science.
voila! lyrics
