General Anim8or Forum / Add new bone "glitch" ???
« on: December 10, 2022, 06:35:21 pm »
is there a small glitch or trick to adding new bones in Amim8or ?

here is why I ask

I am using the newest version (1.01.403)

sometimes even though the ADD BONES < n> tool is highlighted  ----     i cant add new bones
i have to toggle thru the other tools, then come back to ADD BONES and then it will work again

any ideas what is going on here ?

 thanks

thanks I  was thinking that if rendered and exported the 3d animated video from Anim8or
I could import that video to something like Magix Movie Edit Pro or even  Open Shot video editor to do the chromakey and compositing the animation with live video

But you think even a short 30 sec "jurassic park" type film clip using a high polygon model may be too much for Anim8or to handle ?

I have imported some objects from cgtrader, rigged them , sequenced and scene them.

I would like to composite the animation into a real world video footage

what software do you find easiest for this ?

Thank you very much for the detailed reply -- it puts me on the right path
Time to rebuild
Thanks

Are you saying that the Object was attached to the wrong bone to begin with ?

Thanks

Mr. Ross

Update -- I might be on the right track ---

I found options for View- Shading - ARB Fragment Program in the top menu bar

Enabling those boxes made the various textures start showing up ..

Now some experimenting with the texture settings to get the right balance

See photo attached ..

I notice the 2 options make a big difference in the appearance of the model and textures

Might I ask what your settings are in this

Mr Ross,

I am stumped ...

Comparing your images for textures to what I am using ... and comparing settings, what I am trying to do is virtually identical to what you show here.

Yours is working perfectly, but for some reason I am only seeing whatever images I place in the Ambient and Diffuse fields....

Any image I place into those 2 fields will appear on my object ---- but nothing that goes into the other fields will appear

I tried to perfectly match your settings in this example --- still no luck.

Perhaps I am missing and overlooking something ?

Thanks

UPDATE -- It would seem I am not grasping the proper concept for blending overlapping textures when building a material inside Anim8or

It seems no matter what I load or what combinations or settings I use, I can only see the texture loaded in the Diffuse field on my Object itself ..

See screen shot in attached file.

I confess I think I am stumped on what to try next

It's probably easy once one learns the right way to do it

Thanks in advance

Anim8or v1.0 Discussion Forum / Loading Textures Question

I am not sure if this question is best asked here (since I am working in new version) or in the general questions area ....

I have an OBJ I downloaded from CGTRADER .....

It demonstrates what the dinosaur object should look like with all the textures loaded.

I have been trying to populate the Texture file fields in Anim8or for 3 days now -- also reading the available tutorials and Ian Ross's book, but I must still be doing something wrong  ----- as you can seen I am not getting the fully textured character inside Anim8or

I have provided a photo showing the Dinosaur as it should look when fully textured (alslo link to the CGTrader page for this object) ... the textures provided
compared to what I am seeing inside Anim8or

Can anybody provide direction on how I need to be doing this properly "?

Thanks

Hey the newbie here makes his first useful contribution ...stumbled upon a small problem.

Steve -

I don't know if this makes a difference , but as per your recent email --I have been using Version 1.01 from 2017
I was not currently using the latest build.

I found Anim8or while doing a search for 3D animation for beginners and it seems the Search took me to a link for the that older version link on the main news page.

Tonight I will download the latest build and re-test also.

Thanks

Ian,

So to be sure I understand --- what is happening here is without the other bones in the body and skinning / weighting regions defined, something about the shape of the object is confusing the software on the left side when it "grabs the mesh" and rotates?

Your advice would indicate a full skeleton must be built before beginning any skinning

My idea of "testing each small section" as I went along may be fine in theory....but does not work in real practice

Thanks for your help --- hope the questions don't seem odd -- but I like to understand both the HOW and the WHY of things work.

Side Note -- at my age (59) , I have no plans to become a 3D animation expert and get a job in Hollywood making modern movies (smile)
Though that would be appealing if I was just now 16 or so -- starting out in life.

My interest in reading your book .. and a textbook on 3D animation production .... was simply to get a basic knowledge of how the process works from a blank computer screen --- thru live footage and green screening ---- to chrome key and composites to a final "Jurassic Park" style movie blending real and animation together on the screen.
And thus have a better appreciation of the process.

I figure my "goal" will be to make a short 1-2 minute movie of something like me facing a dinosaur in a wooded area, then run towards the camera with the dinosaur chasing

Or something like that which would pretty much incorporate all the steps from

Modeling - texturing --rigging -- animation sequence -- chrome key -- live footage -- lighting - rendering ---etc...

Perhaps basic and simplistic --- but at least then I will have a better understanding of the whole process when I am watching a big budget movie

Thanks again

Ian Ross

Thank you, I will try that.

But just so I understand what the software is doing better.....although  head and torso skeleton is not yet added....what is wrong with the existing  bones that cause all the joints to bend proper on right leg....but the hip and thigh on left leg is not flexing mesh but is instead rotating the whole figure like it is a central root bone?
Thanks
