Finished Works and Works in Progress / Re: SNOWBALL!
« on: February 24, 2026, 12:35:20 pm »
Anyone know how to make Snow Particles?

Very nice work so far.
I've seen some people around the forum mention "Terranim8or" for generating particles. I've never used it personally, but hopefully it helps.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Why Discord?
« on: January 29, 2026, 08:20:31 pm »
I think for (mostly younger) modelers who are used to using Discord, it's out of convenience. They already have Discord, so they just it instead of having to register to the forums. The "instant messaging" feature is probably a big draw as well... sometimes it takes a while to get a response on a forum. I posted sentiments relevant to this a few days ago on another thread:

I don't do 3D modeling very often, but when I do, I always use Anim8or. Sometimes I come here to read if I need help remembering how to do something. Due to forum registrations being closed at the moment, that is the biggest hindrance for would-be new users to start some fresh discussion or introductions. However, I understand they've been locked down for a bit due to high volumes of spam.

I was able to create this account by contacting Steve, but I think many (possibly younger) newcomers will not want to go through the effort of registering an account here when they can join a Discord server. This is no fault of the forum, but a side effect of the Internet's current state of affairs. Stepping away from forums as a whole - or any sort of discussion boards where guests can read without requiring an account - restricts information from being easily accessed, disseminated, or archived. It's concerning for the long-term health of the Internet, especially when you factor in that a Discord server (which are either seldomly archived or difficult to) can be closed or deleted at any time. That means hundreds upon thousands of messages and files can be made inaccessible or lost in an instant. At least with Wayback Machine or other archival sites, you can view past pages here or save copies if need be. A lot of people learn by simply lurking and reading. When you answer a question here, you aren't just answering one person, but countless silent readers that wondered the same thing. If people want to use Discord or similar messaging apps, that's their choice... but I'd highly recommend archiving things on there if you value them!

Occasionally I have come across people discussing their distaste with Discord and wanting to move back to forums, so perhaps old things are becoming new again.  I'm sure we'll be back in style before you know it.

General Anim8or Forum / Mirroring Objects in Figure Editor? (Vers. 1.00)
« on: January 17, 2026, 12:00:17 am »
I'm currently working on a model of a human character. I have the body parts split into separate objects (head, hands, etc.) to make them easier to rig. However, when it comes to the eyeballs, I'm struggling a bit. I'd like to have them centered around the origin of a bone so that they roll around in the eye sockets properly.
Mirroring bones is as easy as right-clicking on them, then clicking >Build>>Mirror Bones. But I'm not sure about how to mirror objects in the editor so they sit on the bones symmetrically. I'm sure I'm complicating this for myself and there's a workaround for this, so if anyone has any advice I'd be happy to hear it.

Just a note in case it helps: I'm using Linux with Wine for Anim8or Version 1.00. I had issues with frequent crashing in the newer beta versions, but that's another situation I plan to tackle later.

General Anim8or Forum / State of Anim8or IRC In 2026?
« on: January 15, 2026, 02:05:54 pm »
Hello everyone. It seems the old #anim8or on irc.irchighway.net has been gone for a long while now, so I'm wondering if there's a new channel or someone still interested in IRC these days who'd like a new one for Anim8or. A shot in the dark maybe, but thought it was worth asking.
