Well, about the symmetry,i did it on purpose.I made the darker edge thinner than the lighter edge to resemble the attacking edge .The lighter edge resembles blocking point and hence was made fatter.

maybe you can try to make the smoke more in a point, so it doesnt look so 'fake', it doesnt end right now...
