Possible bug in 1363 (that I discovered in 1357) - for some reason objects are all showing of having a location of 0,0,0 (as if the origin is offset by the object's actual location)

Check out the file below...

That's a good model Kevin! (Sorry I can't add any useful tips but I just felt the need to say that!)

Nice designs! I like the way you did the eyes and sockets. That's something I nev r quite got right (since eyeballs need to be relatively HUGE - at least in my experience)

Pretty cool Kreator, straightforward - but I'd have in mind (at least if I were to go about a true tutorial series for the 'common era' of internet usage) a series of polished, high-quality, voiced-over or face-cam tutorials where the mentor gives insight and explains in relative detail what they're doing and how it can be applied to other sort of projects - in of course a consecutive order of difficulty so that a user can go from scratch to relative mastery of Anim8or. (obviously not meant to be combative)

Something along the lines of Blender Guru and such, that would really draw in the average YouTube watcher who normally wouldn't even watch those kinds of videos.

Theres plenty out there matey!!
I fully get where botsgeek is coming from. A big, biiiig problem people have with coming into mastery of all of the cool tools and techniques built into Anim8or is that a heck of a lot of it isn't documented, and there sure isn't a proper series of tutorials (for the modern releases) that can take a user from knowing absolutely nothing to being able to create beautiful renders. I'd love to see this community grow (it seems to have shrunk a lot over the past 5 years, with a lot of people moving to other 3d packages, other projects or media), and it seems like the few who are still around should be the biggest proponents in making it Anim8or a relevant and useful piece of software in the modern age where free, *open source* software is easy to come by and works great.

Blender is great but has a serious learning curve ; Anim8or is good, but even though it lacks features, its major selling point is in that it's very *simple* to learn, AND the tools it has ARE actually quite powerful, so it's a low learning curve for the potential for very high-quality output.

How can we bring Anim8or back into the limelight?

DANG! That lamp looks really good!

Really nice models, the detail is great! I *suppose* if there's any improvement to be had, the lighting could really bring your stuff to looking photorealistic I think, since the quality in the modeling is there already

Are you referring to @BOB_I_Ts website?

https://web.archive.org/web/20160418025125/http://homepage.ntlworld.com/w.watson3/main.html

That was it! I didn't know it was his site, that's news to me! I came across it accidentally years ago through Google and recently haven't been able to find it up there anymore.
To the OP, there on the side bar under "An8 Downloads" and then "Object", I used to use some of the files from there when I was first getting into rigging and light character animation.

Thanks for the link, Raxx

Aw man! There used to be a sweet site where there we're just tons of different Anim8or models posted. It had a purple background and was set up similar to the main Anim8or site... anyone know what happened to it?

Any hope for an Anim8or forums revival? Looks like there's an average of what, 2 posts per day these days. I've been here 10 years and it's never been this dead!
For anyone who's hanging around... what can we do to garner interest in Anim8or (and in the forums) again???

Finished Works and Works in Progress / semi-3D wood project
« on: February 08, 2019, 12:38:57 pm »
My first post of anew model in.... wow, I don't know how long!!
I'm doing a woodworking project for wall hangings where I'm taking 3d models, rendering their depth maps and using those to create basically layers/slices for an image. Being a bit of a gamer, I decided I'd use recognizable elements from the three games/series that have influenced me most: T45 armor from Fallout, "Rayquaza" from Pokemon & "Valus" from Shadow of the Collosus.

I found the armor model online for Fallout (after a LOT of searching and digging, mind you!), but there weren't any downloads of the other two in decent quality, so I decided it'd be a great time to god ahead and practice some 3d modelling. Not too shabby after all this time!

REALLY sorry for the crappy compressed images.

Basically what I'll do after this is deemed COMPLETE is I'll render a clay image to get details, and depth map to get some height to it. Then take it into GIMP, boost the contrast so that there are about 5 - 7 grades of grey and use those as my layers when I'm cutting the wood. We'll see how it goes!

Hey Steve, I'll try to send a sample if it comes up in a recent model. Thanks for all your work!

Suppose I'd ought to mention one more thing - maybe a bug, not a huge issue but just a minor annoyance (that could very well be me hitting keys that I'm unaware of) - the "Snap to Grid" option seems to turn itself on really often during long sessions. I feel like I'm probably hitting hotkeys making that happen myself though?

A sound engine, either as part of Anim8or or an external utility along the lines of Terranimator, would be very handy.  To be able to apply a sound (sourced online, synthesized, recorded etc.) to an object and have the active camera behave like a stereo microphone would be amazing, especially if doppler shift and volume could be synthesized automatically based on relative velocity and proximity to the camera/mic.  Ideally it would need to include some sound manipulation tools (and/or a full blown soft synth).

I had wild ideas of building something like this when I first found Anim8or, but have lacked the time and the requisite skills to get anything going.

PS: Congrats on completing the re-write :)

Is that something you'd typically find in an animation package?? Sounds interesting but I question whether Ani8or would find use for that or if you'd be better off using a DAW (Logic, Cakewalk, FL Studio) of some sort instead. Although I suppose that way it *would* be synced directly to your animation.

You probably already know - pushing and holding the right cursor key sort of plays the scene without it hanging.

For me too it only hangs (display frozen) until it reaches the end of the scene. I never put loop scene on because then it hangs forever....

(I haven't run the latest version in anger yet, my comments are based on older v1+ versions)

Oh yeah, that I've used a lot. But sometimes you just crave to see the fruit of your labors without having to put in ANY more effort, lol

Glad to know it's not just me! I think those are the big two issues I've perpetually had with Scene mode- it doesn't play back at full speed (so you have to sort of guess and then render and hope it's right) and then it freezes DURING playback so you can't even get a decent preview without holding the right arrow key.

Looks quite darned good, LIL ZEBOS, I really love how the reflection in the cup seems to show MORE of the 'scene' around that's out of view.

If you're wanting constructive criticism, I feel as if a higher-density/higher res bumpmap on the bread/buns themselves, as well as on the table and wall, could go a long way to making those parts of the scene look more realistic.
There also look to be some little bumpmapped lines on the plate - not sure if these are meant to be scratches? but when I think of scratches on a plate from a knife, they tend to but very thin and not very deep. Otherwise they end up looking like gouges!

A touch of ambient occlusion (to increase the darkness in the shadows where the objects are closest together) and you're well on your way!

Nice work thus far - and welcome if I haven't said it already!
