- I'm running into at least one bug on my two most recent projects where if I have a subdivide on screen, general at Division level 3 or 4, and then I bring up the CAD Annotations and then enter Point Edit mode, Anim8or will outright crash. It doesn't seem to be a case of too-high poly count or anything because it'll be smooth sailing right up until it crashes.

- I love using edge properties, as they avoid having to create complex geometry and stuff for more refined models. However getting to them is hard to do, and getting them to seem to say set to their value is also tough (they'll visually stay the same but sometimes the number just won't be there depending on what the value is)

- For some reason the drag-select doesn't like working properly sometimes. Every once in a while (like last night) I'll open the software and drag select will only select a few things at a time regardless of what I drag across.

- Scene editor has ALWAYS, for just about as long as I can remember, been freezing up while playing back scenes. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue but it does it pretty much always for me. This is my first time trying full-on animation again after years of not touching the Scene editor. Got a scene for a CAD animation that's 16s long and it freezes about 2s in and unfeezes when it's done.

- Doesn't seem like Anim8or plays back scenes in real time. I think this has been the downfall of the quality of many Anim8or users' animations. I mentioned a while ago that I've got a pretty beefy system that would be more that capable of handling Anim8or at its highest output.

The main thing for ME that I think would sweeten the pot as far as using Anim8or for animation would be keyframe editing buttons in Scene mode, maybe at the very bottom of the timetrack, that allow simply adding a keyframe for the selected object, changing the Key type (which for me has always made it tough to animate - that slight 'lurch' back that everything with a smooth key type does before moving in the intended direction, which seems to be the default). I guess it has some interpolation which is fine for organic stuff, but oftentimes needs to be corrected when it's something inorganic/more static which takes a LOT of times when there's a lot of objects moving and things happening.

In any case Anim8or is still without question my go-to software for quick-but-accurate prototyping of ideas. I'm just finding that when I extend my use of the program any further than what I KNOW I can do with it, I'm running into issues that make it much harder to work.

Why not try a Windows VM or look for a free copy of a Windows distribution? I can attest to that I've never been able to get Anim8or running on Mac and to be honest I gave up a few years ago and just run it on my Windows battlestation.

As far as zoom level, I'd recommend (for consistency's sake) that rendering using cameras in the Scene mode. Then you don't have to reset the view every time you want to render, you just go to a camera that's set in an exact spot and render right there.

This is a video by one of my favorite creators on YouTube. Hoping Steve and this community can get Anim8or pushed to make these lists of great free animation software!

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Animating Bees wing movements

here's my thought -
what if you have a greenscreened-out model onf the bee, plus a textured model of the bee WITHOUT wings and then you composite them in editing software afterward and add the motion blur to the layer containing just the wings. Not sure if it's been mentioned but that's one way to do it if you don't want to use, for example, alpha maps in Anim8or directly.

looks amazing! Like some sort of strange painting

Indeed, great texturing too :)

ASL Scripts / Re: change object color in scene

Could render twice with the two colours and fade between the clips, or use a bright green for example and do some basic color keying in a special effects software to make it happen

just found out my question about Arc Rotate is answered here

Cool stuff Steve!

One other thing.. Anim8or has some nice rounding-features for numbers like in the Grid Settings dialogue, BUT it makes for a hard time doing accurate 1/16 inch (0,0625 in) measurements on an object when Anim8or rounds that value it to 0.06

Is that adjustable?

This seems like a simple one, since it's already integrated on some objects; I do a lot of CAD in Anim8or - which, Steve, the software is really becoming great for! - but it'd be useful the Mesh Editor dialogue (or something like that) could show the dimensions of an object.

cheers!

Nice job on the painting Jens! Very spooky and kinda gross like it should be haha

The next one looks even cooler! Curious... roughly how much less does it cost to make them hollow models?

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Morph targets and linear distortion

yup. Bones aren't too hard to use - in fact I think they're MORE versatile because it's for example easier to make things that are near-perfect mirrors for example. Like stated, you get the rotational motion that can't be had through morphs because morphs are simply "point A to point B".

I also won't fail to mention that the Sequence editor is a marvelous tool to simplify the process of repetetive animation that just isn't known to morph targets.

That sounds pretty freaky, by the way - the error. I've had some BIG issues with older version of Anim8or when trying to use morphs and then editing the object afterwards. If anything, bones gives a LOT more room for error when it comes to having to edit meshes and stuff afterwards - more flexible in that sense.

Good luck!

Interesting work, Jens! I see you used that one creepy face drawing software for the zombie faces. I literally have steered so clear of YouTube videos featuring that software (mostly people making faces and stuff using it) because my stomach can't handle it xDD

You definitely have good pacing in the script, I feel. Plus a coherent story - something a lot of us, or at least me myself, can't attest to. The animation quality itself isn't half-bad - definitely better than what I could pull off.

Carry on!

[Probably worth mentioning in your OP for people surfing of a profanity warning. Of course :D ]

Not to drag this up again - anyone got a link to maybe an archive for the forum? Now I'm curious about a couple of people from there.
