Along with lurking around this place, I also lurk around the AGS Forum (Adventure Game Studio). They run a monthly competition to make a game in a month. I've entered a few along the way. I'm working up something for this month's competition:



AGS is a game engine for creating point and click games, usually in 2D. Very limited ability for the engine to make a 3D game, but I'm becoming comfortable in how the engine editor assists a person with designing a 2D game. Anim8or is my tool of choice for creating the art assets. Sorry for the Imgur image. I know some folks may not be able to see it.

I was talking about this forum. Find a post by Steve, click on his name, and it gives some data about when he last visited the site. He probably has other ways of checking on "his" forum, but clicking the name is the only way I know to check.

Wish I could tell you. I've been an on and off lurker for a while now, and I'm certainly not in the know about what Steve might have in mind for the future of his wonderful program. The Forum link to his name says the last time he was active was in January of this year. After Steve retired from Real Life, he dropped the 1.x version, and the Forum blew up with activity, with steady upgrades. Then... Then the OGs and Steve all seem to have left the building. I don't know where they all went. Anim8or remains the only modeling program I've tried that has made me look like anything but an ignorant fool, and I've paid some pretty high prices for one or two of them. I remain indebted to Steve for the program he made, and I hate to think this is the way it comes to an end.

Can't see What you did with Anim8or;says "Content not available in your Region"?!

At a guess, I think you're located in the UK. Seems to be an ongoing dispute between some places and Imgur, which hosts my image. Issue seems to be that Imgur isn't policing content as much as some of the countries want.

You're really not missing much.  ;-)

The fountain I've been working on is part of this:



Lots of different approaches to modeling something like this, and I'm probably not doing it the best, most efficient way, but I'm fairly happy with where I'm winding up. Still need to do five doors and fix a couple of things that are bugging me. Hope to call it done in the near future.

That fountain I've been working on was part of some stuff about a Southern Plantation. This is an outgrowth of that:



I'm debating about trying for a rug on the floor, and a desk below the framed picture. Other than that, I think I'm close to being done with it. The actual building is taking considerably longer and is, progressively, drifting farther and farther away from being an exact model of the original. Nor is this room an actual room in the structure.

FYI, this is related to the San Franciso Plantation, down in Louisiana. How that came about is an interesting story, but you'll have to do your own research. You can't expect me to do everything.

I finally got this about as good as I can make it:



Modeled, animated, and rendered in Steve's Anim8or program for possible use in an AGS game. AGS can run the animation without the static first frame. Now, I need to see if I have the points needed to turn a him into a her, without having to redo the rigging stuff. Transgender stuff. Don't tell Trump.

Edit: What ho... Had the points. Made the sex change, without going to the Netherlands:



Also changed the face a bit.

General Anim8or Forum / Why Discord?

I created a Discord Account and tried to find Anim8or stuff. What I found seemed chaotic. Other than the possibility of online chatting and/or direct voice communications, I see no real advantage over what Steve had going on with this Forum. Clue me in, if you can. Currently thinking I'll stick with this Forum. Not that anyone is going to miss me.

Modeled in Anim8or. Bryce textures/renders with rotation of water texture on lower bit of falling water.



Any guidance about how many frames a person needs to make the repetition less noticeable?

FWIW, Steve's approach to the animation section is far less complex than Bryce's. Ended up just generating the individual images in Bryce and used GIMP to make the gif file.

Been modeling a couple of different lookout towers. Thought I'd share this one:



Tower is modeled in our beloved Anim8or. Bryce render with a bunch of OEM Bryce stuff: trees, rocks, foliage, terrains, fog, etc. Used the Cage and Stair script modules, which made my life considerably easier. Thanks for those!

Playing with this a bit more, and it might be worthwhile including something like this as a, I don't know, non-uniform inset extrusion. Might be useful for turning a square surface into a sort of round surface?



Also, is 1403 still the latest? With the discord stuff, I may have missed something, since I don't do discord. I'd previously reported issues with an earlier version that 1403 addressed and fixed.

Looks like vers 1403 missed the midpoints? I've dinked around with the text file for 1403,
and can move the points to their proper place by copy/pasting in the text file for the (0 5 5)
in the third line for points. I assume something similar would work with the (0 -5 5) portion as well.

This seems pretty consistent, lately, with 1403 version. When you merge faces and extrude with inset, it seems to lose track of points. Some points don't move with the others. Also seems like it may throw points into, or out of, the expected place, but I'm not sure this is a consistent issue. May be worth looking into?
