On build 1387 (and others)

Hi Steve,  I've found a minor issue.  Create figure with 1 bone, add to a scene, create a key on bone-y,  double click the key and delete it from the dialog, the controller disappears.  Closing and re-opening the project restores it.

I think it's quite dangerous, especially if the sticky out bit is as hot as it looks.  That said, I like it, maybe I need one?

Thanks Steve :)

Wrong forum?

The "ongoing anim8or development" forum is restricted, I cant start topics there.

(Or I cant find the 'new topic' button on that forum :), but sometimes it's right there, I'm looking at it and don't see it, like most of my tools in the garage.)

Thanks Trevor - I've been going through the whole re-load / select the file / process.  Much quicker just clicking OK :)

I'm going to have to think about the crowd.... I'll leave it till later since I don't have a story board planned out yet.  I've got some ideas but will have to test...

This project started out as learning lmms music production software. I want to be able to create a music track to "fit" animation projects.  When I started playing with lmms I thought I need a video to go with the first project.   In this project I can re-arrange the music track for the animation and visa vera.

Its going to take a while, I'm a way off creating something useable in lmms, but I know I need a bell, so I've created a test clip (with lmms sound track :) )

Anim8or v1.0 Discussion Forum / Object reference image disappears?
« on: May 31, 2020, 05:25:45 am »
I've seen this a few times now.  Object mode build reference image, default params, my image was a png 1186x633.

Over the top of the reference image create a small sphere, copy it ctrl+c, paste it ctrl+v; the reference image goes blank (I have to reload it).

I'm running 1378+

Nice one johnar

How did you do the crowd?

I haven't tried anything yet. I had in mind some low poly people (like bob_i_t's), with a material that makes them look like silhouettes, with a little bit of random x-y location so it doesn't look like a static image.  But that might significantly increase render time.

Sneaked out of lock down to the local park and set up some lighting and a screen ;)

This scene is a test in which I’m experimenting with lighting.  I haven’t used lights much before I’m thinking about a music video at night, so I need to get better animating lights.

General Anim8or Forum / How big should it be?
« on: May 27, 2020, 02:17:04 pm »
I've started planning out a new project and I need a stage in a large hall or field.  But I will also have small objects on the stage that I want to zoom in to.

In Anim8or I usually use 1 anim8or unit = 1cm. With this scale my floor object is 3656 x 4350 anim8or units - big.  The smallest object of interest on the stage will be 1cm ish, but I still want to see the detail if I zoom to it.

When I rendered a long shot the image was blank because I forgot to extend z far.

I started to wonder if there are other problems waiting to catch me out if I work with large objects, or if I change it, working with small objects.

Is it best to use a smaller scale, e.g. 1 anim8or unit = 10cm, or doesn't it really matter?

ASL Scripts / Re: Auto rigging?

Not a script solution but -

Could you have one in another anim8or file and import it?

I tested this on anim8or 1.01.1348

This problem is random, I can't find a sure way to re-create, but I do have a 20% good -80% fail process:

When performing the steps, I avoid the workspace area with my mouse so no edges or points get highlighted.  This is probably irrelevant but I do it so my process is as repeatable as possible.

Switch to wireframe view. Close anim8or so it opens in wire frame next time.
Open anim8or. Maximise.
Open fourcubes, switch to point edit mode. Switch on CAD annotations. Move the mouse over an empty workspace area (no highlighting). Wait 5S. Press Ctrl+A to select everything, anim8or closes without warning

In my last test, correct operation twice, closed without warning 8 times.

If the wait cursor appears when I press Ctrl+A, it will crash (close without warning).

Some tests I get a run of 5 or 6 normal operation.

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.18363.778] x64.  My PC is quite a quite old i7

Do above with the debugger attached -
Exception thrown at 0x00CA9581 in Anim8or_1348.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000. occurred

Hope it helps :)

I would use Audacity for the audio effects and overlay the audio on the video in my video editor. (I use pinnacle but it's not free)

I've downloaded OpenShot video editor but haven't played with it yet (but its free).

OpenShot.org looks down at the moment....  https://www.openshot.org/

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Attaching object or a target to a bone
« on: April 09, 2020, 10:43:42 am »
the laser isn't recoiling with the gun.  What is the parent of the laser?  Or did you intend the gun to recoil and the laser to be stable?

Might look cool if the laser is facing other - a target, has the gun as its parent, so as the gun recoils the laser stays dead on target.

(I know the physics of a laser will not cause recoil, but it looks good  :)
